Pete_7 Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 TORONTO – A quiet off-season lacking in impact moves nearly played out vastly differently for the Toronto Blue Jays, who had separate trades for Ian Kinsler and Brett Anderson fall apart earlier this winter http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/anthopoulos-addresses-deals-that-couldve-been/
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Good thing it fell apart. Dont want that contract.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 But a potential deal was scuttled by the three-time all-star’s no-trade clause, leaving the Rangers to look elsewhere, and the Blue Jays to anoint rookie Ryan Goins as the front-runner at second base. Saved by the NT clause
bzapple Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Way too vague to come to any conclusions about this. Ian Kinsler would be nice to have though.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I guess the takeaway messages from this are: 1. We aren't satisfied with Ryan Goins at 2B 2. We may have in excess of 20 milllion available to spend.

Oh wow, I just realized that's an actual quote from the article. I thought you were making a joke.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm thinking Kinsler for Buehrle.

BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 So if Kinsler = Fielder, would Kinsler+decent prospect be enough for Eddy?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 So if Kinsler = Fielder, would Kinsler+decent prospect be enough for Eddy? I sure hope not. Kinsler's no trade saved the franchise if that's the case.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 So if Kinsler = Fielder, would Kinsler+decent prospect be enough for Eddy? TEX doesn't have a prospect outside of Profar (who wouldn't be moved with Kinsler) taht would be enough to get that deal done.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 So if Kinsler = Fielder, would Kinsler+decent prospect be enough for Eddy? You are forgetting about Fielder's Contract. f***in' Kinlser is making more than Edwin for f***s sake.

We may have in excess of 20 milllion available to spend. Exactly what I was gonna post. AA nearly making two great deals that just didn't come to be by unfortunate circumstances, combined with AA's waiting game working out really well (there are 6+ pitchers who are attainable that would be huge upgrades and now Drew as well), are actually giving me some optimism he has some idea of what he's doing.

Ya, thinking about it more, even if the prospect was like a top 5 from their farm, its still probably isn't that good of a trade. Kinsler isn't really an asset at this point considering his contract vs EE's. Kinsler on turf probably makes him more prone for injury too...
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 it was prolly like santos + rasmus
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Kinsler's numbers aren't that impressive outside Arlington. And I wonder who was going back the other way. Perhaps it's for the best this didn't happen.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm thinking Kinsler for Buehrle. This would be my thought as well, as there were reports that the Jays definitely made Buehrle available (sneaking suspicion that Buehrle has asked to be traded if the team can find a return it can live with). It could also be possible that it involved Santos and JPA though.

In fact the team seems quite content to go cheap at the position. That's another reason why Buehrle makes perfect sense.

If the plan was to move Santos for Anderson why not offer JJ a QO? IMO the rumoured BA swap just points to another inefficiency in AA's offseason tactics. W/O knowing what the Kinsler offer was it is impossible to say.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 And I was going to post the same thing for the first part of your post. It's pretty s***** that we had 2 trades so close to upgrading our team left in the dust, and here we are with no SP upgrade and no 2B upgrade when those trades would have been great for our 2014 team I can accept it. It's baseball, s*** happens, s*** doesn't happen. What I look at is that we took the initiative to improve where we needed it without getting tunnel vision like I kinda thought we had. If we come out of this with Drew + SP or two I'm gonna be pretty happy. We still won't be in great shape, but we'll be better.

Burnett, Jimenez, Santana, Arroyo....Yoon?....and?
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 We may have in excess of 20 milllion available to spend. If that's the case, why was Gibbons saying we were right up near our (self-imposed) payroll limit and it was a 50/50 chance of us signing anybody? This organization is always contradicting its own ********.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 AA nearly got Darvish, Beltran, Peavy, Sanchez, Kinsler, Anderson and who knows who else...he'll end up wondering "what could've been" once he's fired.

JPR almost got Lincecum. He would be a Saint if around these parts if he had pulled it off.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 JPR almost got Lincecum. He would be a Saint if around these parts if he had pulled it off. Wasn't JPR the one that backed out of that deal, or am I misremembering?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Wasn't JPR the one that backed out of that deal, or am I misremembering? No it was Sabean. He's a notorious dry humper.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I recall that he was demanding Cain over Linecum and that is why the deal fell through. Sabean leaked Rios's name to the SF media and they raked him over the coals for it. This is basically what started the Jays practice of not discussing trades because they felt the SF media cost them Lincecum.

Just reaching here. If Sabean was serious about that trade, I don't see why he would leak it. Who knows.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
