http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/a-simple-accounting-of-farm-system-impact-potential/

I was just reviewing this last week. This is from October, not sure how much has changed over all due to minor league signings, but I am not aware of any major movings.

This has Houston as number 2 instead of number 1.

Surprised it has us listed as high as 11.

That's a really weird ranking system they used there though. You can't really go by that list.

The tie with the Mets surprises me. Even with the omission of D'Arnaud, the Mets seem poised to get a lot more near-term contribution from their farm.

Hopefully people now stop reading into that BA list that wasn't a farm ranking. This is a bad farm.

Yep, most of the high upside arms the Jays have are 4 years away at best, provided they pan out at all. And Sanchez can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn.

Oh I agree it is off, but everyone ranks them differently, and I try to not only listen to one source. I would rather see all of them and then take what I want from them. I do agree with some of the rankings though.

BP says we have a top half farm too, FWIW.

Yeah. There is potential there, but in terms of relevant prospects it's basically Stroman, Sanchez, and a bunch of R-ball arms. Things could look better in 6 months if Sanchez starts producing and several high-upside guys take a step, but as of right now this group is decidedly below-average.

A big season from Tellez would help a lot. He's practically the only position prospect with power.

Looks like the Rays farm is just as bad.

The Rays are a great organization but their draft record tends to get overrated. They built a lot of their depth the same way the Jays did by gaming the compensation system. Now that they just have the normal amount of picks, they have been exposed a bit.

The difference is, the Rays know when to sell high to replenish their pipeline of talent. Plus, their minor league system does quite suck, only Guerreri and Romero are the only good prospect to me, but at least their major league team is loaded with young talent.

Tellez, Nay, Tirado, Norris, Sanchez, even Barreto. There are a lot of guys with big talent who could improve the state of the farm significantly with a big season. They just have to do it.

A lot of teams have 4-6 guys who could have big seasons also. That means nothing. Right now, 24th seems about right, with Stroman/Sanchez really being the only studs.

Miguel Castro is a stud, DeJong underrated, Rodson is a "wait and see" guy and Dermody 12,5 K/BB

For all the s*** the Yankees get and to have a better Farm System than teams like Tampa Bay, Braves, Blue Jays, Athletics, White Sox, Tigers, Mariners? Nice! I love it!

Also, a trade like Shields netted them Myers, who essentially stepped in to the majors and therefore never counted as a "prospect" for them at any time

They'll likely do the same with Price, if they can - (trade for MLB ready players rather than A/AA level prospects)

Except we have like 25 guys that could have big seasons and emerge as serious prospects.

The thing is that you're just a fan looking from the outside, Not a scout or professional talent evaluator. Your opinion doesn't hold much as you only go by you see on the internet. The Yankees may not have a lot of household name prospects, but their lower level minor league is absolutely stack. Specially with their 3 draft picks in the first round last year. Not to mention that every single big prospect they had last year got hurt... Mason Williams, Slade H, G. Sanchez, Banuelos, Montgomery, Austin....you name it.

If a few guys at the higher-ish levels like Banuelos, Ramirez, Heathcott, Austin, Montgomery, Murphy, Flores, etc. can just not flat out s*ck or get injured this season --- we could be around the Top 10. And that pretty much was the case for all of those guys last season hence the 20th ranking.

It's good in pitching prospects, but a lack of position player talent will force them to trade pitching for young hitters, similar to what they did when they traded Shields for Myers.

Does this mean your opinion doesn't hold much either?

Ummm, that's what good organizations do, they trade from a strength....

I like how he said that and went on to say the following

He just finished telling TwistedLogic that his opinion doesn't mean much because he's not a professional scout, and then proceeded to say a very similar thing to what TwistedLogic said.

This is what I been reading....I just go off that pal.

Someone asked "How come the Blue Jays are lower than the Yankees" there's your response as for why they're lower in the list. A lot of their good prospects are not known by the casual spectators.

Posted
Is BTS gonna be shocked that this is a top 10 farm club at midpoint of the season. I bet Keith law didn't see not one prospect below low A

Aaron Sanchez is really underrated at this point. A guy who pitched well in the Arizona fall league against the top prospects being underrated HA!

The Yanks don't have a good farm system and im pretty sure that everyone will admit the RedSox system is stacked so it isnt a biased opinion.

Yes it is stacked why do they think they're no longer major players in free agency. They're smarten up. They're becoming St. Louis east
