Also, if the manager is correct in their first challenge, they are given a second chance to challenge. Max 2 per game.

Love it

#GetTheCallRight

As do I.

It'll be interesting to see how many calls actually get overturned. And how often the crew chief calls for a review on his own.

This will probably be the biggest contribution a manager can actually make statistically. We can have Manager WAR! Of course there is someone else helping though lol.

Let's just call it npWAR (non-player WAR)

I would think anything remotely close like they do in basketball but it will be more rare. I just hope it doesn't slow the games down too much, they are too long to begin with.

What makes that fateful day that Gallaraga almost pitched a perfect game so great, was that the wrong call was made, and we got to see the "human element" of baseball in full display. Just think, this kind of thing may never happen again. So sad :(

Lmao, awesome.

Basketball coaches have challenges... What? It'll add what, 5 minutes to the game? They waste more time making a pitching change after every batter.

If an average replay replaces an average manager-umpire argument, then game lengths won't change.

it's ridiculous that they have put into the wording, of the new rule, that they wont even check the phantom touch at second in the double play.

nothing like specifically naming a rule they wont enforce.

I bet there is at least one manager ejection over a replay this year.

New rule: Pitchers must face at least 3 batters or reach the end of an inning before they can be removed from the game (excluding injury). I'm not a big fan of the idea of reliever specialists (in general, not in effectiveness).

This is great news!

I particularly like that

" Clubs will now have the right to show replays of all close plays on its ballpark scoreboard, regardless of whether the play is reviewed."

Expect lots more booing at the games.. always hated how they never showed the replays.

I wonder if the umps are allowed to look at the scoreboard displaying the replays to determine whether to check it out themselves after the 6th inning?

now all the stat pages can keep more exact stats on how often specific umps screw the pooch. I wonder how the commissioner will handle umps who clearly cant do their job.

Also somewhere.. West, Joyce, Foster, Bucknor and many others are sweating extra heavy tonight.

like any of those old farts care. the league should have retired them years ago.... and I'm really surprised Davidson is not in your list. he's personally screwed the jays over more times than any of us want to remember.

My mind has done it's best in erasing Davidson from my baseball memories.

That list could be a mighty long one.

I think he has the most game changing decisions anyone's got wrong against the jays... even screwed us over in the playoffs. hate that SOS.

I mean in the NBA in the last few minutes (3 I think) refs can review any call. It gets pretty annoying because anytime there's a question on the call they have the right to go and review. I mean basketball is already annoying due to all the free throws near the end, so I think the effect is a lot worse in that sport. Either way, I hope we don't get into a routine where almost every close-ish call is being reviewed, that could add several minutes to a bunch of games which would be terrible for the sport.

Yeah but those are more fun to watch, at least for me anyways. Once you see the review usually you know the answer and then it's just a matter of waiting it out for the official decision, as we see in hockey all the time. Not interesting.

I wonder how the challenge mechanism will work. It will be interesting to see how teams work behind the scenes to be able to view replay of their own and determine whether or not to challenge.

Yes. Yes.

I've long been in favour of some kind of limit to mid-inning pitching changes. That and stop the hitters from stepping out of the box between every damn pitch.
