G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Pirates pitching coach says it's looking like AJ Burnett will probably retire

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Been listening to him in and off the past couple hours. Mostly he's just being an ass and acting silly about the whole thing. He's apparently having Bob Costas and Tom Glavine on the show to discuss it
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Great story by Mark Grace about Greg Maddux calling him over to block the erection he got because pitching excited him so much
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Check out this insane Maddux stat tweeted by Drew Hutchison: Greg Maddux faced 20,421 batters in his career. Only 133 of those at-bats went to 3-0 counts.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Ricky Romero probably produced more 3-0 counts in the month of June 2012

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 2014 Hall of Fame Ballots Lawrence Rocca - Morris, Nomo, Raines, Trammell 4 http://bbwaa.com/14-hof-ballots/
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 132 of those was int-walk? LOL. Hadn't even thought of that. Some of them probably were. There were probably seasons he had to face Barry Bonds 15-20 times.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Actually Bonds faced Maddux more than any other pitcher BA. 265 over 157 PA. He walked 24 times. I'd guess almost half of those walks were intentional.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Lavelle Neal - President of the BBWAA said on PTS that Le Batard did not receive money for his Deadspin vote, his punishment was just for allowing someone else to determine his vote - says Le Batard never voiced his opinions internally to the BBWAA about how he felt about the process - wished he would have to try and convince people that the BBWAA should be moving in a certain direction about the voting process - feels conflicted about how to deal with PED players, but writers should be able to use whatever criteria they want to judge a player, expects more dialogue within the BBWAA about it - said he himself wanted to vote for more than 10 players this year - there is a committee in place to study the 10 player limit and he expects/would not be surprised it will be adjusted in the future - admitted there needs to be more dialogue within the BBWAA between members, especially around voting time. Bobcat had suggested that they try to get as many BBWAA members in one room to have real discussion about that year's eligible players, so there could be more information shared from writer to writer - was disappointed in the types of ballots that would vote for Jack Morris and nobody else. Did say that the HOF ballot is not to be used as a form of protest but there would be no action taken against that writer.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I don't really see anything harmful in what LeBatard did. He probably submitted the most reasonable ballot of the 500+. That is quite sad given it was entirely fan generated. Some of these guys really need to die off already.
