Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Wow, Joey Gallo with the rare platinum sombrero today, 5 Ks in 6 ABs.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hech news. So FanGraphs recenty started showing InsideEdge defense data. I was playing around and putting it into runs. Damn you! I was gonna do this (or try diligently and fail miserably)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Man, the opening of ST has been like a death knell for SP so far...hopefully for him it's nothing serious. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24486124/patrick-corbin-leaves-start-with-forearm-stiffness Lol at the weird angle of that picture. Dude, you need to work your pitching arm not your catching arm.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Another one bites the dust: Arizona DiamondbacksVerified account @Dbacks Medical update: Patrick Corbin underwent an MRI last night that showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. (cont.) Archie Bradley is likely to make team now.. Corbin is likely done for 2014, as he is facing Tommy John surgery.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 So the Red Sox were aware Iglesias had shin issues: Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters, including Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com, he feels for Iglesias, who played for him last year, but was "aware (the shins were an issue) to the extent we had to monitor. We had to get him off his feet because he felt some pain and soreness there." Shouldn't the Tigers have known this? If Iglesias was a pitcher, I think some people would be asking questions. Anyway, their problem I guess.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Well, Detroit was pretty desperate to win a World Series and needed a young SS.. perhaps their medical staff isn't that great in Detroit.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 They may have known. They were more concerned with getting through the season. They may have known, but if they did know, I would think they would've gotten some help during the off season, maybe even in the Fister trade. Who knows really.

Who knows really. Wasn't the whole reason they did the trade they did do is that they really wanted Lombardozzi, to the point of settling for a underwhelming overall return for Fister? Maybe they feel he can handle shortstop?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Anyone waking up at 4AM next Saturday to watch the Opening Day Series from Australia (DBacks vs Dodgers)? I will. Lots of coffee that morning.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Anyone waking up at 4AM next Saturday to watch the Opening Day Series from Australia (DBacks vs Dodgers)? Hell no. Might PVR it if it's on Sportnet or TSN.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Anyone waking up at 4AM next Saturday to watch the Opening Day Series from Australia (DBacks vs Dodgers)? Yes, definitely. I'll have to go to bed really early.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Damaged goods?! Jose Iglesias - SS - Tigers Jim Duquette of Sirius XM Radio was told by a source close to Jose Iglesias that the shortstop is dealing with stress fractures in both shins. The shortstop has confirmed the report himself. Iglesias is flying to Colorado on Tuesday to get yet another opinion. More should be known about his diagnosis and timetable after that, but Duquette says Iglesias could miss "significant" time. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski conceded Sunday that the shortstop would "definitely" begin the season on the disabled list, but he called reports that Iglesias could miss four months or more of action "speculation" at this point. Source: Jim Duquette on Twitter Mar 17 - 10:23 AM They'll sign Drew, and go on to be just fine, thats my prediction. Someone should clue AA in on this line of thinking...seeing a glaring hole, and going out and filling it. Radical, I know.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 And another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust.. MLB @MLB 9m .@Athletics RHP Jarrod Parker will undergo Tommy John surgery on March 25. Parker likely will miss the remainder of the season. What is wrong with arms these days? This is getting ridiculous.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I was reading an article the other day and the studies were showing that the stress on a normal persons UCL at only 80 MPH should be enough to snap it in half. The reason most pitchers don't drop like flies now is because they train and develop that ligament to take more stress. But, as you can see, there's still more and more pitchers going down to this same injury every year. Why? Honestly, just my own crazy opinion with no real numbers to back it up, I think that pitchers, because they know there is a TJ surgery out there that will fix them if they break and very likely get them back healthy again, are not as considerate of how they should be training their arms really early in their life and instead of being cautious and slow in their development aren't holding anything back when they're learning to pitch in little league and high school baseball. Look at how many high school arms are out there throwing 95 MPH at 17 and 18 years old and putting insane amounts of stress on their arms while they are still physically maturing, and many times having TJ surgery before they even go to college. Why do all the crazy arm exercises every day when you can sign a massive multi-million dollar bonus and just have surgery in a few years?

I heard that some parents get their kids TJ surgery when they are young to make their arm stronger.

So should kids under a certain age not pitch above 80 mph until a major league showcase and should just work on their command until then?

Maybe they feel he can handle shortstop? Dombrowski said the young LHP was the key as he was part of a group of young pitchers they were focusing on getting back. Anyway, as I said, it's the Tigers' problem, I just found Farrell's comments somewhat interesting in that he's saying they knew he had leg issues. Freakin' Red Sox, everything goes their way.

So... 4 WAR season for Sizemore?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 So... 4 WAR season for Sizemore? You'd better believe it bro! I remember last year when Lackey left that game against the Blue Jays at the RC with an apparent elbow injury, I think pretty much everyone here thought he was gone for a long time, especially since he was coming off TJS the previous year. Well, we know what happened, but you can bet if he was a Blue Jay, his arm would've been amputated or something...lol.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I heard that some parents get their kids TJ surgery when they are young to make their arm stronger. Some parent try to get it done, no reputable surgeon would ever perform that operation on a healthy arm. It's a huge misconception that you are stronger after the surgery anways

Well, not exactly what I was getting at, but they should be focused a ton more on building their arm strength with exercises and not overthrowing just to get scouts attention on the radar gun, knowing that if something blows up they have the miracle TJ surgery to patch them back up.
