BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) How soooo two upgrades to the pen, a starting cf allowing pompey to stay in AAA for a lil while or the year for seasoning! Or be the fourth outfielder on the team easing him in! Middle infield might be weaker but Travis can also play a lil AAA to start the season, plus Bloomquist can play 6 different positions on the field. Not sure we had better then these two last year on the team! Jays also come out ahead in payroll even if we pay the full 10 mill out between the two teams! Sign shields, if you leave pompey in the minors add a cheap Suzuki or Denoforia ! Plus muni is still availible or Caberra on a one year deal! Edited December 26, 2014 by BigBounceyBlueBalls
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 To Seattle: Ian Desmond To Washington: Aaron Sanchez, D.J. Peterson, Dioner Navarro To Toronto: Denard Span, Dominic Leone If you wanted to simplify that quite a bit. If the Nats are truly serious about dealing off a couple of pieces, I could see them doing that + extending Zimmerman. I guess. I dunno if they'd really do that but as a Jays fan that'd be killer
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I wonder what Doug Fister will get in free agency? 5/75?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I wonder what Doug Fister will get in free agency? 5/75? Bit of a weird case because he's been consistently good, but he's a soft throwing righty. Unless he has a huge 2015, I bet he gets close to Garza/McCarthy money. But IIRC he had a shoulder strain and elbow inflammation last season. Could go down next year and ruin his earning potential.

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I'm working on a 3 way deal with the METS who would take Reyes back, the 3rd team is the Rangers we get Andrus. I'm working on the final details but Navarro, $$$, and some other pieces are moving as well.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) Some actual news and not outrageous trade proposals, and it's a major blow to the Yankees.. no wonder they traded for Eovaldi: Edited December 26, 2014 by jaysfan2014
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Why is everyone so anxious to get rid of Reyes with no ready replacement? Or trading for a guy like Andrus which is a small improvement for a lot more dough
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Why is everyone so anxious to get rid of Reyes with no ready replacement? Or trading for a guy like Andrus which is a small improvement for a lot more dough Because hes offense is declining and hes terrible defensively and the longer we have him the harder it is to move him with $66 million still owed on the back end.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Most fans seem to think Reyes is bad because of his defense.. but he hasn't been sound defensively since his age 24 season. He was awful defensively in New York and Miami as well. Most of his value is in his bat.. remember, we didn't give him that awful contract, Miami did. As for Andrus, he is getting $15M/year starting in 2015 to hit for little power.. if he were able to hit for 10-15 HRs a year and had a much better OPS, he'd be more worth it. Not even the Mets and Yankees will touch him, especially with that huge extension. That contract is going to cripple the Rangers for years..
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Because hes offense is declining and hes terrible defensively and the longer we have him the harder it is to move him with $66 million still owed on the back end. He has to put up 3 wins per year or so (a bit less) to justify that contract. He averages like 2.5. No one's going to trade for him and we don't have any better options anywhere in sight, so I don't understand why we don't just accept what we have and look at other things that are more fixable.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Bad contact, bad term that and he is often injuried. But what I hate the most is him throwing away the game late or f***ing up and then.... pan to him and he is Smiling like the Chester cat with a big s*** eating grin like nothing even happened ! f*** that just makes me wanna five finger death punch him! Plus with the savings money wise if it allows us to sign shields, I am fine with it! Offensively and defensively ! Losing Reyes while gaining shields I believe makes us a better team moving forward as well!

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 the fact that the jays don't have major payroll commitments beyond 2015 is making it easier to swallow

Andrus has $148M remaining on that albatross of an extension the Rangers gave him, starting in 2015.. and he's not worth it. As for Reyes' defense, the Yanks lived with a defensively challenged Jeter for 19 years.. who only got Gold Gloves because voters didn't take sabermetrics seriously until recent years, mostly focusing on Jeter's contributions. Reyes' offense hasn't really declined.. he's just hitting more singles and doubles and less triples. All he really needs is more DH time.. hopefully the Jays will find a backup SS to relieve Reyes on off days.

And compared to Andrus, Reyes still has some offensive value. There's a good chance the Rangers are eventually going to have to move Andrus' contract.. but nobody's going to touch all that money.

Do you really want a team that is f***ing miserable out there? They're playing a goddamn game, and having fun is the entire reason people play games... Or should be, anyway. canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I don't have an issue with Reyes, the contract doesn't match the output exactly but most don't. Just wish we had a super utility player we can trust and let Reyes have a few extra games off

And his defensive numbers are already slipping based on UZR/150: 13.3, 1.8, 7.5, 8.5, 5.0, -4.4. Where did his defense go? Is he hiding an injury, or is he already in decline? That 2014 number (-4.4), is only slightly better than Reyes, who was at -6.6.. but Reyes has never been known for defense, being a similar player to Derek Jeter, but with more speed.
