Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Looking back at Rios' stats, he was a lot better in 2009 when the Jays gave him away to Chicago then I remember. Posted a 92 wRC+ (1 WAR) in that 479 PA sample that seems to just be bad BABIP luck -- and this was coming off back-to-back five win seasons! Only 12 hitters were worth 10.4 WAR in 2013-14, which is what Rios was worth in 2007-08. I think that if Paul Goldschmidt or Buster Posey were worth one win in the first two-thirds of 2015 teams would be lining up down the block to buy low on them. Did the lack of sabermetrics in 2009 contribute to people being so down on Rios? There was some weird incident where Rios told a fan off.... I can't remember the details. Plus the Rogers business geniuses were reacting to a slight down turn in profilts and I believe ordered payroll to be cut. It's all part of the never ending cycle...
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Jon Heyman is a pompous, old-school prick who is barely literate and loves trolling the more informed with his nonsense. The guy gets paid to write articles in the English language and I have a hard time fathoming it. To his editor, though...u da real MVP. I barely follow anyone on Twitter but I get enough information from him to be worthwhile... I don't read his articles and I don't care if he capitalizes names. We live in a day and age where people don't have anything better to do than to bitch and complain about nothing.

I think you are talking about this when he refused to sign an autograph for a fan and got into a yelling match with someone
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Morrow's best chance to succeed as a starter is in San Diego so smart move by him. I still think he's a reliever at this point in his career, though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Kershaw Greinke Ryu McCarthy Anderson has to be the best rotation in baseball. Traded for his depth in Bolsinger and Wieland before making the signings (and Zach Lee working on finding his out pitch again). There is a reason that Friedman's nickname is Levonorgestrel (it actually isn't but it's his most admirable quality)
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Capuano gets 1 year, $5 million from the Yankees. The pitching market is not cheap this winter. Sanchez in the rotation seems like a pretty safe bet at this point.

That and the Yankees are very thin in depth, with nobody in the minors MLB ready or even being any better than Capuano, especially considering they traded Shane Greene to the Tigers. Better hope Tanaka, Sabathia and Pineda stay healthy. Severino is still a ways away, and neither Bryan Mitchell or Chase Whitley or MLB ready, or can be considered decent rotation depth. And Banuelos is still recovering from TJS.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I was gonna call BS on McCarthy > Fister but...I didn't know he was relatively bad last year. What happened?! He was a 3-4 war player with Detroit..
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I think you are talking about this when he refused to sign an autograph for a fan and got into a yelling match with someone I met Rios and got his autograph at the big "meet the jays" day they do in spring training every year. He was a douche. I let my 4 year told practice in the front yard with the ball he signed He also plays with the Travis Snider ball I have (which I had in the mint case for years hoping he'd be a stud). Good times.

Always good to have confirmation. Travis finally put a decent season together, though his numbers vs. lefties were a fluke, I don't think he's turned any corners.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Not so much Fister was bad, but McCarthy good. Yep, McCarthy got his velocity back this year and it's made a huge change.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Lucroy giving a shout-out to Jose Molina on MLB Network. Nice.

If i remember correctly near the end of his stay in TO he was being a lazy f*** in the OF. Clearly didn't want to be here.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 A little torn by the Rays deal. 1 year of Joyce at an approximate $7M, for 2 years of Jepsen at approximately $7M. I totally understand it from the Rays view as Kiermeier is a younger, cheaper, better version of Joyce. But i hate fair value trades for the Rays.

McGee's sudden surgery, sure helped it along the way.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 OBP machine Daric Barton signed a minor-league deal with the Jays. Now if he could only hit.. he'd be a better option than Smoak.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Gavin Floyd signs with the Indians.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Anyone remember how desperate we were to sign Floyd last year? That was a dark, painful offseason.

Gavin Floyd must be on a low deal.. especially considering he's coming off an injury. And everybody seems to hate Moises Sierra..
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Floyd's worth a gamble, IMO.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Yeah, I feel like he's still got some great seasons in him if he can just get healthy.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 In before Goins for King Felix...... Because Goins is easily a 3 WAR player.
Undefeated_JaysFan Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 That would be huge after trading Joyce today.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Who would even be going to Tampa there? Cashner..?
