How pathetic. It was already done better two years ago when a parent pimped out his kid to cry about the White Sox trading Brent Lillibridge to the Red Sox. So it's not even an original idea. Hey sweetie can you cry on camera about our often injured, scrub third baseman so maybe it will go viral and we'll become famous? 

 

Brett lawrie is a true blue jay once he goes to free agency he is gonna come back and play 2nd base

 

Fans need to stop sulking about the loss of their favourite player. The Blue Jays got much better with this trade. You're talking about acquiring a top 5 position player in all of baseball.

Pearce, Jones, De Aza, and Lough is probably just fine.

 

Uh... no. De Aza was a non-tender candidate and a terrible defensive outfielder. David Lough is a 4th outfielder at best. And it's unlikely Steve Pearce will repeat his 2014... ask Chris Davis.

It took a while, but searching multiple sites found me most of the salary information I need (from 1988 onwards). So, after accounting for standardized percent change in team salary, the new "GM rankings" look as follows:

I still think you could save yourself 1000 hours and get basically the exact same information by just looking at team win totals (and it still wouldn't necessarily reflect GM talent. Theoretically, Amaro could have taken over Gillick's Phillies, put them in a terrible long term position but exited after the 102 win season, and he'd look like a GM prodigy).

 

Best way to measure GM talent might simply be $ spent per added win, with marginal wins properly valued (so rich GMs aren't unfairly knocked). Would need big sample size.
