I don't see where his velocity declined. Miller is nice and all, Robertson is more proven and I think he is a truly elite reliever. Miller had an elite season, but had control problems before. He could be great for years but it's easier for me to be sold on Robertson for the next 4 years.

But Robertson had control problems before as well?

He still pitched pretty good when he was walking 4+/9 too.

When he was younger though, he has a longer track record of not walking everyone. Miller had a high BB/9 in 2012-2013 and earlier.

Now watch Yanks trade for Hamels and sign Scherzer.

It's how they roll.

I am still not sure if it will be enough though, They are atrocious. This is not the yankees of old anymore, where they had punches all over. Pretty weak lineup,

They might get Scherzer but I have a feeling the Redsox are the real power to be dealt with. Yankees may take a slightly different approach.

For a sports team its not always good business to win all the time. Sometimes, losing helps in the long term, because fans forget what its like to win if the team keeps winning.

I don't get the "since Donaldson was traded for not very much, every 3B value goes down". Also, if RH power is worth so much around the league then I think EE should be higher.

Stroman should be higher than Ventura I would think as well, but I guess the "being short" would decrease Stroman's value around the league still.

Edit: Lucroy should be way higher. If Martin was getting 70 million dollar offeres from multiple teams, than catcher defense is worth a lot more than Dave Cameron thinks.

And you forget Boston is going hard after Lester now too. Looks like when the Jays pull a move or two, the Red Sox/Yanks one up us and go bigger.

Scherzer and Lester signgings aren't one ups of what we've done. They're both probably bad signs.

They are both dominant pitchers, so just like with Martin's 5th year, Lester/Scherzer's last year will probably not pay off for the team as well. But until then, I don't think either pitcher will suddenly flop.

Pitchers suddenly flop all the time. Pitching has so many injuries that you can't prevent. I mean look at Verlander who had a pretty bad season after being the best pitcher in baseball.

Question so what's up with Washington? Are they looking for salary relief or sizeable returns in prospects? zimmerman,Desmond clippard and Desmond they are willing to move! Then sign scherzer hmmmm! So they looking for 20 mill savings or what?

The same can be said ala Josh Hamilton/Ryan Howard. I mean, the fact is, age plays a factor at any position most of the time, and sometimes it's just bad luck.

I don't get why the Yanks wanted Didi... does not appear to be a good defensive or offensive SS.... good for us I guess

Most reports say good defender. Not true?

And both of those guys were terrible signings at the time as well... If you are trying to say Josh Hamilton and Ryan Howard were good signings but bad luck made them worse, then I don't know what to say..

Stats say he has been bad so far.

You need at least 3 seasons (+400 games) to qualify a fielder as good, bad or mediocre.

Defense data is so volatile

FSR (Fan Scouting Report) are fans that watch the them play and vote on his tools. Then it's translated to runs.[/quote

I know. Thats why you have to take these metrics with a grain of salt in small samples. If there is a big discrepancy then we should wait till there is more data before drawing conclusions.

Your original comment was that a pitcher could flop at some point, I never said I liked the Verlander deal either. But, hitters can flop as well, that was my point. Over payment is one thing, production drop is another. The reason a team overpays on certain star players is the premium to sign them to get something they don't have in their system or because they have an immediate need. Lester/Scherzer are legitimate ace #1 pitchers.

Pitching "flops" a lot more than position players do.

Hopefully Melky turns them down.. he'd be a nightmare for the Mariners playing his games at SafeCo, especially considering his lousy defense.

Sickels' ratings for Cubs system are in...

It's like the batting equivalent of what the Diamondbacks had back in 2012 (Parker, Skaggs, Bradley, Bauer).

To put those ratings in perspective, there's a good chance the Jays have zero "A" rated players when he does their system eventually.

Surprised the Cubs have been relatively inactive so far. If there's any team that can get good in a hurry with the right moves, its the Cubs.

Edit: well, they did sign Maddon which qualifies as a significant move.

Norris is a A- at least.
