King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 47s48 seconds ago Sources: #Dodgers continue to discuss trade of Kemp to #Padres. Grandal likely would be in package going to LAD, and SD would get $ in deal. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 46s47 seconds ago #Dodgers talking Kemp with other teams as well. Deal with #Padres not necessarily more likely than it is with other clubs.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Sigh, Padres. Grandal for Kemp would be so, so, so, so, so, so, so dumb.
baubau Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Common AA! Trade Navarro for Cashner if that's true. You can do it Ninja!
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Grandal > Kemp Yup. Holy f*** San Diego. Don't be dumb.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. So would AA, until Lawrie got injured again and that projected 4 war became 1.5

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 And you wonder why free agents stay away from Baltimore.. Dan Duquette seems powerless against a cheap-ass Peter Angelos, who refuses to spend money to keep free agents.. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/orioles-notes-markakis-outfielders-young-miller-hitting-coach.html#disqus_thread And regarding Markakis.. they pulled the same crap they did with Grant Balfour:

Does she know that her team is recieving a top 10 MLB player and the best third baseman in all of baseball? Stfu you little whiny bitch. I wanted to screw Larissa olynik aka Alex Mack when I was little but I never cried about it. Jesus people are pathetic. And not this little tyke, her parents that post this s*** How pathetic. It was already done better two years ago when a parent pimped out his kid to cry about the White Sox trading Brent Lillibridge to the Red Sox. So it's not even an original idea. Hey sweetie can you cry on camera about our often injured, scrub third baseman so maybe it will go viral and we'll become famous? Brett lawrie is a true blue jay once he goes to free agency he is gonna come back and play 2nd base Fans need to stop sulking about the loss of their favourite player. The Blue Jays got much better with this trade. You're talking about acquiring a top 5 position player in all of baseball.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Not signing Balfour, Cruz, and Markakis look like pretty smart moves to me. Then Baltimore better find some OF help and OBP..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Pearce, Jones, De Aza, and Lough is probably just fine. Uh... no. De Aza was a non-tender candidate and a terrible defensive outfielder. David Lough is a 4th outfielder at best. And it's unlikely Steve Pearce will repeat his 2014... ask Chris Davis.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 It took a while, but searching multiple sites found me most of the salary information I need (from 1988 onwards). So, after accounting for standardized percent change in team salary, the new "GM rankings" look as follows: Top 10: 1. John Schuerholz (117.0 dWAR) 2. Pat Gillick (84.0) 3. Billy Beane (61.7) 4. Frank Cashen (58.6) 5. Dan Duquette (48.8) 6. Brian Cashman (39.1) 7. John Hart (38.8) 8. John Mozeliak (36.9) 9. Bill Stoneman (34.9) 10. Ron Schueler (29.5) ... 14. Andrew Friedman (19.0) Bottom 10: 1. Bill Bavasi (-50.4 dWAR) (Seriously, how did this man have a job for so long?) 2. Chuck LaMar (-40.7) 3. Allan Baird (-37.7) 4. Woody Woodward (-36.7) 5. Andy MacPhail (-35.5) 6. Joseph Klein (-35.4) 7. Harding Peterson (-33.6) 8. Cam Bonifay (-33.0) 9. Randy Smith (-28.7) 10. Kevin Towers (-24.5) ... 17. Ruben Amaro Jr. (-21.2)

Ruben Amaro Jr. (-21.2) I still think you could save yourself 1000 hours and get basically the exact same information by just looking at team win totals (and it still wouldn't necessarily reflect GM talent. Theoretically, Amaro could have taken over Gillick's Phillies, put them in a terrible long term position but exited after the 102 win season, and he'd look like a GM prodigy). Best way to measure GM talent might simply be $ spent per added win, with marginal wins properly valued (so rich GMs aren't unfairly knocked). Would need big sample size.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Wow, Chase Headley apparently has a 4/65 offer from an unknown team already. Thats pretty ridiculous considering what the people on this forum THOUGHT he would get.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Oh and I fully expect the Phillies to make another stupid signing. Mike Morse to the Phillies for like 3/40 is my guess.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Yankees working on 3-team deal w/ AZ and DET to land SS Didi Gregorius. Hearing Shane Greene would go
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 jonmorosi Robbie Ray has been discussed (as going to Arizona) in 3-way deal among Tigers, Yankees and DBacks. @YankeesWFAN first reported talks. Tigers Greene; Yanks Didi; Dbacks Ray?

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hm..in the back of my mind I always thought of Gregorius as a stud but looking at his #'s he's been meh. He was below-average defensively. Here's an old article on Jeter vs Greg http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/didi-gregorius-vs-derek-jeter-importantly/ He's still only 24, though.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 They are also down one pitcher, which means they need to go for two now. Lester/Scherzer tandem inc?
