It's crazy to say this but seems the Mariners are the team to beat in the WC.

Which is a good thing for the Jays if they want to attempt to make the playoffs, since we have 4 left with the Mariners. But first, we need to cut the gap before that series in late September.

Luckily, KC has 4 decent other starters, so they should still have a good shot of winning the Central, since the Tigers are pathetic.

The Tigers have been pathetic, but seriously I just don't see how they don't pull out of it.... so much talent.

Well, the Tigers keep losing important games, like they are with the Giants.. losing a series to a good team does not help their hopes. Much of the problem is due to that bullpen and bad defense..

On Friday night at Fenway Park, a young Red Sox fan was handed a foul ball. I'd keep it. You'd keep it. But not our young friend here. He was kind enough to offer it to the little girl behind him:

But for this fan, the kindness didn't just stop there.

Not only did he give up his only souvenir, but when the Red Sox broadcast team sent him a gift bag, he found something in it his new friend would like and gave it to her as well:

Red Sox field reporter Gary Striewski tracked the young fan down during the game and asked him about his kind gesture. Ryan, age 12, said that after seeing other people do the same thing on TV, he thought he'd give it a shot too.

"I thought it's a nice thing," he said. "And it's good to…make people happy."

If this kid is our future, we're all going to be OK.

That's definitely a good article/clip that I should show my classroom someday. Thanks!

Pretty historic season in that regard, 2 of the top 5. I really wonder what Phil Hughes changed this year (I can't remember what he said he was doing different) to really not walk anyone.

Looks like he scrapped this slider and is fastball cutter 85% of the time with 10% curves and the odd sinker and change thrown in.

Iwakuma gonna get paid so much. Please don't let him come to our division.

Hughes will likely never have a year like this again.

Why? Hughes is only 28 years old.

It's pretty cool how Iwakuma and Hughes are doing it in the same season.

Career numbers never suggested the potential for this. Almost every year FIP > 4.5. I don't trust guys that have that one great year. I'd bet on him regressing quite a bit next year, that's all. Nothing guaranteed/

Mariners get shut out by Derek Holland and the Rangers.

Jays now 5.0 games back.. it is important we get that deficit down to 2-3 games by the Seattle series, as we're chasing them, and Detroit could be finished off by the time the Mariners come to Toronto.

Mariners have a trap series with Houston coming up, then some key series with the Angels and A's.

Tigers on the other hand have Kansas City(2 series), Cleveland, and Minnesota next up. Of course, the Tigers embarrassed themselves vs. Minnesota last time.. who know what'll happen? If they fail to win vs. KC, the Tigers playoff hopes could end right there.

And watch out for that Indians team.. with that pitching and their soft sked, that team could surprise, and could steal one of the wild cards.

Remaining Indians sked, FYI:

Angels (1--makeup game, home)

Twins (6)(3 home, 3 road)

Tigers (3 road)

Royals (3 + 1 half inning, home)

Lastros (4, road)

Rays (3, home)

Sweet

Sort of

I thought I'd be cheering for Oakland by now but...

watching teams hand away the farm and blow it is kind of fun though isn't it.

Angels and Pujols on fire. Running away with the division. Won 12-3 over Cleveland today, making their lead over Oakland 7.5 games.

As i predicted earlier, it will be a Dodgers-Angels World Series

Tigers win. Oakland's lead could be down to 1 or 1.5 games if they lose tonight. And the Tigers win puts pressure on the Royals.. suddenly, I'm thinking their 29-year stretch of no playoffs will continue, especially if Seattle keeps winning.

Question: which position fields more balls, 2nd base or ss?

Intuitively, I would say SS since right-handers pull the ball that way.
