Holy f***, the Mariners are now +93 this season. Did anyone else not realize they had been that good? I mocked them coming into the season because I didn't think they were ready for a splash like Cano, but they're actually really fun to watch this year.

I'd suspect that +93 is more a testament to their pitching staff than their offense. They are in the bottom of the league for batting average, slugging, OPS, OBS. Outside of Cano and Seager there isn't anyone on the team has a WRC+ over 100.

Their top 3 of Felix, Kuma and Young have been surprisingly solid.

...that and the they played the blue jays a few times this year already which is solid padding on that stat. :D

E: Their bullpen has also been pretty lights out. That always helps.

Royals win AGAIN..

Tigers' playoff hopes are fading as quickly as the Jays and Yankees. Brad Ausmus and several coaches could very easily be joining Girardi and Cashman on the unemployment line at season's end if this continues.

Chris Young breakout ace 2k14

Pitching in Seattle helps too. On the road, he's 3-3 with a 4.33 ERA. He's a product of Safeco Field.. he's a mediocre pitcher outside of Seattle.

They're 11th in baseball in offensive WAR. The stadium has an effect on their raw numbers.

What's wrong with Cashman? The guy is a pretty good GM all things considered.

Hal Steinbrenner's not going to tolerate 2 straight non-contending seasons. I expect him to go on a firing spree like his father used to do:

From Wikipedia (not really a reliable source):

Steinbrenner quickly became famous for his rapid turnover of management personnel. In his first 23 seasons, he changed managers 20 times; Billy Martin alone was fired and rehired five times. He also employed 11 general managers over 30 years. He was equally famous for pursuing high-priced free agents and then feuding with them. In July 1978, Billy Martin famously said of Steinbrenner and his $3 million outfielder Reggie Jackson, "The two were meant for each other. One's a born liar, and the other's convicted." The comment resulted in Martin's first departure, though officially he resigned (tearfully), before Yankees President Al Rosen could carry out Steinbrenner's dictum to fire him.

And I expect Hal will start doing the same thing when the Yanks lose for multiple seasons while teams like the Red Sox, Rays, Orioles and even the Jays outplay them. That franchise is a mess.

As it stands right now, the current Yankees squad may be comparable to the 1989-1992 teams, which overspent on free agents and had many draft pick busts.

Maybe they do like they did to George and keep Hal away from day-to-day activities, and have the Yanks develop their farm system.. they have nothing coming in the pipeline anytime soon(position players), and free agency, due to changes compared to the 90s, make it impossible to build a team now by spending.

I don't think Hal is his father. Cashman is safe. Girardi is safe.

Cash Money lol. That's great. He probably goes by his middle name or something.

Blake is pretty big for a twelve year old too: 5'10, 161.

Meh, pretty tall, but not massive or anything.

Idk, he's way over the 97th percentile (the top rung in standard charts) height and weight for a twelve-year-old.

Most people I knew at 12 (Grade 6) weren't pushing six feet.

Hal and Hank are far from their father. They're almost as bad as CBS ownership from 1964-1972, when they were unable to replace aging vets like Jeter with young up and coming talent because they have failed to develop anything on the farm, and the decline of free agency due to increased revenue streams allowing smaller teams to lock up young talent.

And there's pressure for them to perpetually contend, because they lose money when the team misses the postseason..

Wrong again, they could have replaced jeter but replacing a future hall famer isn't something people just do. They're giving him a graceful exit. Its a classy move by the Yankees, something I don't think they would have done 25 years ago

When I was 12 I was 6'0" and had a couple friends that were getting up there too. Not many but a few. But people are probably just getting taller.

Good for Seattle and KC to prove doubters run. Good to see their "win now" moves help their teams contend. Quite a few posters are looking like fools, again, for laughing at them...

The Yankees 1990 draft was one of the best in history led by Carl Everett (1st), Andy Pettite (22nd) and Jorge Posada (24th)...providing them with 122+ fWAR. And 1992 they got some shortstop.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good narrative.

Good on Seattle and KC (and Toronto for that matter) for contending despite their management. I'd like to add that KC has 21 homegrown players on the roster (tied for the 5th most in baseball), and their big free agent acquisitions were Omar Infante and Jason Vargas.

he's technically not wrong as they had many draft busts over those years...with 75 rounds back then they had about 72 a year that busted.

Yet they can't develop bats (see Hosmer and Moustakas). Plus they play in the AL Central, with bad teams like Chicago, Minnesota, and a struggling Detroit.

Seattle is inflated by playing Houston and Texas so much.

They picked 10th in the draft as well, plus 6th in the 1992 draft to get Jeter. The 1991 draft (Brien Taylor #1) was terrible because of Brien Taylor being a colossal bust due to injury.

Sadly, with the current management of the Yankees demanding perpetual contention by outspending everyone, along with caps on the draft spending, it's unlikely we'll see another draft for the Yankees like this again.

I know if the Jays had played say 60 games against the Central and West they'd be like 15 or so games over .500. And crazy how that 13-12 record against Texas and Houston inflated Seattle's record. #truetalent65-56team

The inflation is worse with the Angels (19-6), 52-43 vs. everyone else. And for runs scored, 145-96 vs. TEX/HOU, 422-384 vs. everyone else. If Houston didn't keep embarrassing the league so much, the West would be more balanced. And you can bet the Angels want the division.. they won't survive a play-in game with Price or King Felix (although the Jays aren't out of it either.)

That is one of the dumbest things iv'e ever heard. Every f***in team wants the division...

Angels really need it in the West.. especially considering they spent all that money and haven't made the playoffs since 2009, and it would help Mike Trout's MVP chances.

Have you heard the story of "I'm not High85!" yet?
