BTS Community Moderator Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Clayton Kershaw is sillier. 72 innings? Guy needs to man up.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 72 innings? Guy needs to man up. Have you checked out Kershaw's fangraphs page for this year? It makes Felix look like Happ. (The inning differential is pretty substantial though as mentioned.) Felix: http://i.imgur.com/PaaU59b.png Kershaw: http://i.imgur.com/Gt53apg.png Oh my...
xposbrad Verified Member Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 this Houston team is gonna be good. Singleton just hit an single up the middle to go up 6-4 against the tigers. It was against a lefty, a bit high It's what happens when you tank a couple of years, dump a couple of vets, and build up properly. Although, they still will need to add FAs, but if they were able to get payroll to 100m+ with the core they have, they would be a serious threat. They have a bunch of good building blocks with nice contracts for the next 5 years. Kind of wish the Jays did that, then went crazy with the payroll, but never going to happen, and that's why the Jays will likely not win much in the foreseeable future. Until a competent GM comes along and is able to build a winner.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Polish up those cy youngs, Felix and Clayton are running away
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 We can thank the Rays again so in spite of our futility against lefty pitching with lackey starting for the Sox we probably won't lose ground

Plus, the Astros will NEVER contend in the AL West, as the Angels, A's, Mariners and Rangers are far superior to the Astros. And their spending is on hold until they get a TV deal (their TV deal is losing money because of Comcast Sportsnet Houston's bankruptcy). With the Astros' financial issues, it's unlikely they will get to $100M in payroll anytime soon. Most fans have abandoned the Astros due to their anger at Jim Crane. And the Jays had to make those moves. Besides, most of those pieces traded have yet to pan out in the majors. Edited June 29, 2014 by jaysfan2014
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Jays at least still own 1st place. Not so for the Giants.. thanks to today's loss, the Giants are tied with the Dodgers. As a result, there is now a clusterf*** in the NL Wild Card due to the Cardinals loss to the Dodgers: 1st wild card Dodgers +2.5 (tied in NL West) Giants +2.5 (tied in NL West) 2nd wild card Reds -- (3 way tie) Nationals -- (3 way tie) Cardinals -- (3 way tie) Pirates 1.5 GB What a mess..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Mookie Betts' first MLB at-bat ends up being a GIDP. 1-0 Red Sox though on Stephen Drew's RBI single.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 7-5 Red Sox. Mookie Betts badly misplayed a ball in RF, allowing Ichiro to reach 3rd on a triple, which Brett Gardner then scored.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 At the rate David Huff is pitching tonight, New York is going to have trouble tomorrow if David Phelps struggles vs. Tampa, who will have Chris Archer pitching. The Rays are salivating at the possibility of facing a worn-down Yanks bullpen and not facing Tanaka, looking to help the Jays out (although Baltimore is facing Texas.. but the Rangers are still dangerous.)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 And here comes Betances in the 6th.. at the rate Girardi uses him, he'll be needing Tommy John surgery by September when he blows his elbow out from overuse..
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Sox beat the yanks. in spite of our losing ways we still aren't any worse off cause the Yanks and O,s are just as bad.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Mookie Betts also made a great throw to almost nail a guy at 2nd on an automatic double, and showed a nice swing, and a great approach in singling and drawing a walk (laying off an outside fastball with 2 strikes that a nervous overmatched rookie would typically flail at). And while he got thrown out in his first SB attempt, he showed smart baserunning instincts, and is flashing a crazy large lead that appears to play with the mind of the pitcher. The Sox will gladly take the occasional bad route on a ball from a guy who has barely played the position while he gets used to being a MLB OF. In the uber-small sample - a guy in his first MLB game, playing in Yankee Stadium - you have to be happy with what you're seeing in the kid. Who cares about some Sox prospect

What pisses me off is the Yankees have lost 3/5'th of their rotation and they are still 1.5 games out of 1st place. It's almost like 2013 all over again, where despite critical injuries they find a way to win. The Jays for the most part of the season have had their full 25 man roster and didn't take advantage of pulling away from the Yankees.

Reyes, Lind, Lawrie, Bautista, Rasmus, Morrow, Casey, Santos, Ceceil, Happ have all been hurt. You could argue that our rotation been in good shape health wise mainly because our 2 "aces" are innings eaters.

I wouldn't include Lawrie and Bautista in that group since that injury happened recently. Besides, all those players got injured but we were pretty fortunate that many of them didn't happen all at once The Yankees got all the bad news for their rotation pretty much all at once and haven't had those 3 out at the same time for awhile

They've finally gotten old, they're injured, s*****, don't hit, bad run differential...and they're still hanging around.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Run diff: Jays 30 O's 4 Yanks -32 Sox -33 Rays -37 Os and Yanks really f***in lucky. Run diff is s*** sometimes. Streaking +99 RD (50 games) Slump -20 (50 games) Overall +99 + (-20) = +79

Dickey eats innings like my son eats an ice cream cone. It starts off fine, but then he loses focus and suddenly it's dripping from three different spots and when he tries to adjust, he dumps the whole thing on the floor and creates a huge mess.

Yup... it's the same s*** over and over. After 91 pitches opponents are OPS'ing 1.076, and 1.033 after 106. He always gets flustered in later innings. And never picks up his defense if they make an error. This may sound dumb but if Gibbons pulled him after 90 pitches he'd prob be 10-0.

He still eats innings, bad or otherwise. That's what a inning eater is. Put your bias aside and look at what he'll do. Go over 200 innings again. May not be worth Thor and the best catching prospect jays have ever had but it will be worth his contract.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I fully expect R.A Dickey to go on a better run in the second half. Lower his home run rate a bit, his walks and be anchor with the younger guys struggle a bit.

Dickey shoudln't be considered an "innings-eater" anymore since him eating innings means you're going to give away the game.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I hope it's not a durability issue with Dickey. We know he sucks as the game goes on. Will it get even worse as the long season drags on, and we enter +35c weather?
