Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 They might not be great this year but they could be in good shape in a few years IF run properly. They need at least 2 of their 4 young pitchers turn out to be something None of their acquisitions have been risky.. minus cano but that is many years away. Run properly doesn't include giving someone an astronomical amount of money at a position of strength, then proceed to sign every player they could find who doesn't have the ability to play in the field and play them at even harder positions than they normally might occupy.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 baseballexis "When talking Canadian baseball with #BlueJays manager John Gibbons in January, he also mentioned how impressed he'd been with Paxton." Sanchez + Cecil + Gose for Paxton + Franklin

None of their other signings have been long term. I don't think they were ever going for it this year. Give a year for their pitchers to develop, and compete in the 1-2 years. After their tv deal, they should have lots of money available. They just need to make some smart trades, and not sign Cruz
bzapple Verified Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Is the plan actually to let Ackley butcher CF all year? Well that would fit right in line with their plan to let Morrison/Hart butcher LF all year. Or are they just going to have like 5 DH's...? I honestly have no idea how their team is supposed to fit together.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Joking aside, the Mariners will be looking to trade Cano in about 2 years, right?

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Rays likely to sign ERIK BEDARD to a Minor League deal Nice lottery ticket.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Rays likely to sign ERIK BEDARD to a Minor League deal They're up to something...
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 They're up to something... They must be close to a Price deal. They're hording rotation candidates.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 They must be close to a Price deal. They're hording rotation candidates. hoarding! But yeah, they might be onto something. I like Nate Karns and Bedard is an awesome arm to get on a minor league deal. C ya Price! Wonder where he'll land...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 They must be close to a Price deal. They're hording rotation candidates. My thoughts exactly. Please not Edwin for Price Please not Edwin for Price Please not Edwin for Price

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Actually, the real reason the Rays signed Bedard is because Hellickson is out until May, so the Rays need depth in Durham, with Odorizzi expected to be the 5th starter until Hellickson returns. It has nothing to do with David Price.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Karns' role is unclear at this time. He'll likely be in Durham this year with Enny Romero, Mike Montgomery and Alex Colome in that rotation.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I remember Nate Karns making a top 100 prospect list last year. Maybe Law's? I finally got a chance to check this. Karns was #99 on Law's list last year.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Maybe Rays acquire Nick Franklin and the Jays take the best shortstop in the world back to Toronto???
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Tulowitzki? We'll even throw Romero their way.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Done deal: @JonHeymanCBS: #rays agree to deal with veteran lhp erik bedard. @TBTimes_Rays 1st in.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 We'll even throw Romero their way. What if they ask for Kalfus? That'd be tough. Kalfus + Romero + McGuire for Cargo + Tulo? Hmm.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Tulowitzki? Wait, wait, I have a better one "But the best shortstop in the world just announced he's retiring this year"
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Also, Jim Fregosi DID die overnight, a few hours after the awkward tweets and after I deleted the premature thread about him Sad. RIP
