connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Even the best aren't infallible. - Rasmus trade for Moz was crud. - Loney re-signing was poo for Rays. GB signing was weird as well. - Doesn't Beane trade Pena for Rincon in Moneyball? - I'm a fantasy baseball superstar but even I don't win every trade. I'm not a Loney fan myself.. but they got a good look at him and if they are projecting him as say a 6 WAR guy over 3 years for $21m.. I will give them the BOD over a fan's opinion until proven otherwise.. as you mentioned, they cant all be good but you get a leash
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 1/5? I'd probably do that. But, I'd need the payroll space and nothing more efficient to spend it on. So if I had five mill to spend, buying a reliever would be way down my list. I'm not an absolutist. General rules here. My argument was framed about the assumption you had the money to spend without neglecting other areas... not what the most efficient way to spend money is..

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Considering replacements and other needs, no. Ok.. so tell me what you'd do as head of Jays FO if you only had $5m (total) to spend this off-season on the FA market thats better than DR at 1/5.. don't forget that signing any SP looking for a rebound is highly unlikely to pitch in the RC.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 My kind of woman.... Stand By Your Man I wouldn't call picking pointless fights on Twitter (which she has done on numerous occasions) sticking by your man. I would call it attention whoring.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Then clear Happ, Janssen, Santos, and Izturis salary, and look at Infante and Drew. That's if I can't make a trade with Seattle for Franklin or Ackley. Should be using Happ and Santos/Janssen to bring in a starting 2B.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I like that deal for the Mariners, they will be an interesting team to watch if they make 1-2 more moves
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Rodney is so overrated. Guy has two good years over the last decade. He'll blow up like he always does. He's the poster child of why teams should not overspend on relievers.... So volatile year to year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 My argument was framed about the assumption you had the money to spend without neglecting other areas... not what the most efficient way to spend money is.. That's a very specific argument supporting nutshell. Give any team in baseball five million bucks and there would, hypothetically, be a way to spend it that trumps buying a reliever. Any team. Ever. Good GMs sometimes buy relievers, but probably not before exhausting an extensive list of other options. Maybe you run Tampa Bay and you have a few bucks for some weird reason and the off-season is almost over and your manager keeps telling you how much he loves grant balfour, so you just say f*** it and swallow the bitter pill of inefficiency.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 White Sox To Sign Mitchell Boggs
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Sounds like Baltimore is out of the Burnett Sweepstakes. Just read on TradeRumors that they are unlikely to Sign A.J.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 No way will it be Seattle. He will want to stay in the East. I would say Pittsburg is the likely target but who knows sounds like he is open to anything.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Baltimore also missed out on K-Rod.. he's resigning with the Brewers for 1/3.25M. Man, Burnett, Colvin, Balfour, now this.. free agents are avoiding the O's like the plague due to Peter Angelos and his management continuously reneging on deals by finding phantom injuries. They could've had a closer, a starter and a bench bat right now.. but Angelos won't sign anyone. Makes you wonder if Jimenez and Santana will go elsewhere, including Toronto.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 $9.5M in '14, $9.5M in '15 and $11M option ($4.5M buyout) for '16 is the Arroyo contract. Min $23.5 mil over 2 years. Max $30 mil over 3 years. Does this help value out the Santana/Ubaldo contract at all? ie. if Arroyo is worth $11+ mil a year, Santana/Ubaldo is worth...xxx?
