Where the hell are the Mariners going to play him?

I would think they would end up trading a few players to improve Starters/Bullpen

They are very limited in starter defensive depth lol

1. Miller (ss)

2. Seager (3B)

3. Cano (2B)

4. Cruz (RF)

5. Hart (LF/1B/DH)

6. Smoak (1B/DH)

7. Morrison (LF/1B/DH)

8. Saunders/Ackley (CF)

9. Zunino ©

They would however have really solid bench depth (right now)

Bench: Ackley/Saunders, Montero, Franklin, Gutierrez, Bloomquist, Buck, Almonte, lol

Boni played really well for them after the trade

FWIW Boni would be a decent bench piece for the Jays. It's unfortunate he was forced in to the starting lineup and the MIF but Boni does have some value off the bench as a pinch runner and 4th OFer. At the league minimum AA could do worse.

Does one of Franklin/Ackley, + one of Maurer/Paxton get it done for Samardzija?

Felix

Iwakuma

Samardzija

Walker

Ramirez/Maurer/Paxton

If they do sign Cruz, Seattle has so many trade options

I doubt it.

I think Franklin and Paxton (if CHI views him highly) would be enough to get it done but I wouldn't make that trade if I were Seattle.

They'd have to love both players. I'm not particularly fond of either of them. I see Paxton as a probable RP with an erratic #3 ceiling.

I think Chicago probably has their mind on something shinier.

Although, Franklin is probably half way there. Not far off. Franklin-Paxton-Saunders for Shark and a reliever? I dunno.

I think Chicago only moves Shark right now for an overpay in the Latos/Shields realm.

On a corner I suppose. Deal Smoak, LoMo at first and Hart at DH. Ackley as bench depth. Bury Montero behind the backfield during spring and hope no-one asks questions.

One thing is for certain, they appear to be trying to corner the market on players who can't play defense.

It's hard to view Paxton as anything other than a back-end starter. Still a durable 4/5 with years of control is a decent asset. I like Franklin and view him as a third-to-second tier MIF'er. He will never be a star but should hover in the 2-4 WAR range through his prime. Perhaps you'd have to add a little, and Saunders or any OF'er should be high on Chicago's list.

Saunders and Franklin would be awesome targets for US imo.

Franklin and Ackley more so than Saunders. Jesus Montero could be the answer to the Lind platoon as well.

Abom just has a huge hard on for Saunders. He drafted him 10 rounds too high in L3 last year lol.

I still think he's a big breakout candidate, but yeah I did draft him too high. Also, I don't think Seattle wants to trade Ackley (and certainly wouldn't trade both).

I can't think of many pieces this team needs less than a corner OF who hits from the left side and is league-average offensively.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Saunders put up a 120ish RC+ next year, and a move to a corner outfield spot probably puts him slightly plus defensively. He's also controllable for the next 3 years, and we're gonna have outfield issues in 2015.

Anyhow, everyone needs to have one or two factually unsupportable breakout candidates or they aren't real fans :)

JACOB ANDERSON WILL BE A FIRST DIVISION STARTER AND KYLE DRABEK WILL HAVE A HIGHER PEAK THAN ERIC STULTS but yes agreed

It'd allow you to trade Lind and slide Melky to full time DH.... I'm not confident in Melky's ability to bounce back defensively but I do think he'll hit. I could be alone in that line of thinking though.

It's time for Drabek to put up or shut up. I think he'll get some MLB innings this season, possibly including a stint in the pen this season.

This season will likely determine if he continues on the path to being a starter or if he gets moved to the pen.

I can also see a scenario in which Hutch and Stroman outperform him in AAA and get the call first, even if he does pitch well. The hypothetical scenario would pop up where Drabek is the 7th-9th SP on the depth chart but playing at a MLB level. This may cause AA/Gibbons to use him out of the pen even if they intend to try him as a SP going forward.

Kevin Towers extended by Arizona lol.

Kevin Towers is good. Here are some reasons why:

Cliffs:

"trading Kelly Johnson for Aaron Hill AND John McDonald"

(note the emphasis on AND)

"getting Brad Ziegler for (snigger) Brandon Allen and Jordan Norberto"

(franchise changing)

"dumping Chris Young and getting the cheaper, better Cliff Pennington back"

(better?)

Tremendous debate. I'm enjoying it right now!!

Who's this Yoon guy? Pacific import obviously. How hard does he throw?

Keith Law has him as the 37th best FA, writing:

"Yoon wasn't the same after the 2013 World Baseball Classic, returning to KBO late in the spring and eventually landing in the bullpen when he couldn't regain his stuff as a starter. Prior to 2013, Yoon would work in the 90-92 mph range in the rotation with a full assortment of off-speed pitches, including an above-average or better changeup.

In 2013, he dropped to 87-90 mph and had to rely even more on his secondary stuff, only getting his velocity back in relief work. His fastball is true and up in the zone, so it's more likely he ends up in relief here than in a rotation, but I'd at least give him a chance to show he can miss enough bats with the changeup and slider to end up a fourth or fifth fourth starter."
