And your thoughts on the Jays heading into the 2013 season with Izturis pencilled in as the 2B....playoffs?

Come on.

Where did I say he was my ideal 2B?

I can't believe there are people here who think bluejays contribute negative economic value to rogers

Go get some schooling

Lern 2 reed.

Nobody said the Blue Jays are a detriment to Rogers.

Ken, the problem is that AA and Beeston committed the team to contending last winter and basically said we are all in for the next 3 years (our window of contention). Now it looks like this team is in a state of limbo where our assets are just going to keep getting older. This team as is won't contend unless they catch lightening in a bottle and let's be honest here that is probably a severe long shot.

AA either needs to address the deficiencies on this roster or blow it up. Nothing else is acceptable.

I don't agree with this. I'd rather not repeat last year's "all-in" moves just to give the appearance this is an organization committed to "winning".

Despite getting rid of a boat load of talent last offseason, we're still left with some decent pieces. I think I'd rather start the season with some combination of Hutch and Stroman as rotation considerations and see how we do before making any hail mary moves in the name of contention.

It's not inconceivable that a return to form from Dickey, a healthier Morrow and the emergence of one of Stroman or Hutchison gives this team a legitimate chance to compete. Sure, a lot has to go right, but in the absence of any consistent, coherent vision from AA, I'd rather take the more cautious approach moving forward.

More simply put, I have zero faith that this team can effectively evaluate assets on either side of a deal, so what's the point?

If all of the above good fortune does not happen, then I would think about selling off some pieces.

ITT: people who believe that the only two possible outcomes for AA over the last two offseason a we're standing pat and egregiously overpaying for wins. The reality is that undervalued wins were acquired by other teams last year and are being acquired by other teams this year. If a GM can't add wins without overpaying he's ineffective and should be fired.

People aren't even demanding a sexy move with big surplus value here. Additions at zero projected surplus or even a small loss would be welcome given their spot on the win curve.

That's just it, not every position has to be a plus, several small improvements to a long way as well, but we're likely well past that point with many viable options gone such as Ellis.

I never said all-in, I'm talking about addressing needs. I would have been quite happy with an offseason where we got Navarro, Ellis, Marcum (for example) on a minor league deal similar to what he signed, and one good upgrade to the rotation. That is not all-in, that is addressing needs.

I just don't understand how the team can start pinching pennies now after last offseason's clusterf***. Take a guy like Infante - If you really do have a $150 million to work with, front load a 4/45 deal with him if that's what it takes. At $15 million in 2014 for Infante the team could still have $10+ million for a starter if they move guys like Happ, Janssen, and Santos for cheap bench pieces to strengthen the roster.

AA went all in payroll wise and didn't consider what could go wrong? It's incredible that a team could jump that much in payroll, sacrifice that much talent only to stand pat when a few smaller moves could really solidify this roster.

Mohyou deserve some respect. He improved a lot lately (FA contest)

Exactly, people need to cut him some slack. He isn't that clueless when it comes to baseball.

Completely disagree. He goes away, this place improves.

Not really. He's the same broken record he's always been and a second dogg account has already popped up. He doesn't add anything at all to the forum.

Troglobully over there ^^^

As long as mohyou stops conversing with clomero (or whoever that guy is now) and Howard Roark I don't mind him. He's doing really well in the FAP Contest too - ninth place.

LOL , well said! But at the end of the day, believe it or not, if AA is making Rogers a profit, then he's technically doing his job regardless of the w/l record.

Same case with the Leafs all those/these years. Sign & trade some players the fans know, who are past their prime, fill out the lineup card and send em out there.

Profit for years....

Posted
So if we're conceding the season, why not trade Bautista?

Should've happened years ago. But apparently you don't trade assets when their value spikes at an age where production starts to wane.

Posted
You're right, but it's a little harder to actually act on this.

Go all in, trade everyone under 21 that's not contributing to the Major League team?

Slow & methodical, sell high on Rasmus and the bullpen?

How does a front office do either of these two moves while considering last year?

You throw last year out the f***ing window.

Posted
The problem isn't specifically their ages, it's the fact that Morrow cannot be counted on and JJ was a complete bust and as a result no attempt to qualify or extend him was made, which is understandable but cost this team dearly. Not to mention the countless people who thought Romero would bounce back and now he likely never makes another start in a Jays uniform. That is 3/5 of our rotation and as a result this team is now completely relying on these two aging SP and AA hasn't done anything to address it.

Didn't Morrow & Johnson have questions before the 2013 started as well?

Everyone who disregards a farm/youth has pretty much set themselves up for a huge letdown in the near future. The players we have won't be moved when their value is optimal, because Alex is clinging to this little window to contend. And when that window is closed, those same players who were closer to their max value, will be further away, worth less in trade and a farm that even though is being lauded as phenomenal in the lower ranks will still be a good 2, 3 years from helping the big league club out. Mediocre team again with a farm ready to contend.....hey lets go all in, because we can win in the next 3 years.

Wash, rinse repeat = fail

If you hitched yourself to the 2013 team as a contender on paper before the 2013 season with Izturis or Bonifacio as the starting 2B. You can't complain about the 2014 team with Izturis at 2B, because its pretty much the same team.

The improvement of the Yankees enters in the debate.

WTH does this mean?

How did the old forum run? Pretty much rampant......the posters ran roughshod over the mods, if there was any.

On here, its (Michael Jackson voice) "Hey guys, we're making this nice forum inclusive to all. We're not looking to ban or shun anyone"

That's BS, people get banned very quickly after they do stupid stuff. You expect them to start banning people out of the blue or something to prove there is active moderation?

At what point do the vets start getting moved? Or do we ride them into retirement & free agency and show nothing as a return?

Either way this team is f***ed in 2 years.

Its time for him to end his multiple account/personality schtick. Sometimes a sentence proves difficult for him to piece together. And in this thread its like he forgot he was posting as Moh You and went full blown English in full posts.

He's like Ang'. He falls in and out of these spells where he'll ramble off a few posts like English was a first language. And then remembers he has a gimmick to uphold and goes back to his 3rd world mother tongue.

IMO he's the same as the High85's of the last forum. But for some reason the mods have been snipped from banning, or just don't feel the need to ban, for whatever reason.

Nah. Things change. You can't criticize people for altering their opinions as they receive new information. The 2013 season happened and should obviously carry heavy weight in projecting 2014 performance.

I don't care if they alter opinions, but the altering shouldn't be dramatic, otherwise the opinions they held last year were very wrong.

Going into 2013 we had an old, expensive team for this market, but not compared to "peer" teams, with little depth, little if any financial wiggle room, and an unwillingness to move any players to improve and most fans were calling for WS parades.

Having most of the fanbase say, "we really need to fill 3 big holes going into 2014" and hoping for contention...... puts us in the exact same 2013 boat.

Why is this team f***ed in 2 years, if we suck this year we can unload serious talent at the trade deadline and next off season and load up on young promising prospects.

Guys like Bautista, EE, Reyes, dickey, Rasmus, morrow, etc could bring in a boat load of new talent.
