I'm not as worried about the in house rotation, I'm worried about in house 2B...

I don't mind rotation spots given to Hutch and Stroman out of ST if that's the worse case scenario. However like you said, other areas especially 2B need improvement.

I'd rather just give Stroman a rotation spot from the outset if he pitches in Spring Training like he did in the fall league. He's as ready as he's going to get.

I hope so too. I don't want to see wasted starts on guys like Esmil Rogers, Tomo Ohka, Josh Banks, JA Happ etc. Lets see what Hutch and Stroman can do if they have great ST's!

Not many teams have 1 through 9, without one or two shitbags in there... The Jays will not have a problem scoring runs. It's pitching.

And who says Danny Salarzar doesn't end up in that group as well?

Who are all the teams that are six deep in the middle infield.

Reyes sucks defensively.

I didn't specify his defense, which I would consider average, but thanks for the useless post.

Hey I'm just happy the farm is not going to be traded for a bunch of middle of the road veterans

Next, trade Bautista for young emerging top talent

Well AA needs a plan and to be honest it doesn't seem like he has one. He either tries to add to the core he has, or he sells of pieces like Bautista, Rasmus, Reyes, Buerhrle, Dickey etc. If the Jays stand pat, there is no point in keeping the same roster around since they aren't good enough to begin with to contend in this division with the Rays, Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles. There are still some solid FA's out there - and all the would require is cash. Also, there are plenty of 2B upgrades available (Ellis, Roberts etc were on the FA market) and there are some options via trade (Mariners need to move Franklin or Ackely; Daniel Murphy could be available; Brandon Phillips; Danny Espinosa) all whom would be upgrades over Goins/Maicer. Also, AA needs to strengthen this bench - a bench of Maicer, Thole/Kratz, Sierra, Gose would be awful.

I think we can all agree that Reyes is not an average defender at SS.

If you're trying to win the worst poster award then you're well on your way... You seriously don't see an issue with the infield depth as it stands???

His range was obviously limited after he came back from the injury... before that he was ok I thought.

Gose, Sierra, Thole, Goins/Izturis lol

That could be the worst bench in all baseball right now (Gentry, Ruggiano, Hanigan excellent options)

Good. Perhaps the FO has already been given the go-ahead by The Board to ease off the win-now s***, and reset this club's direction to something closer to what we were doing prior to the Marlins trade. I can actually see this offseason as something of a Stealth Tank move when I try really hard to convince myself of it, and that fills me with hope, gentlemen.

You can live with it, but a smart organization moves him to 2nd.

Don't get your hopes up pal, uncle Pauly has way too big of an ego to let that happen.

I wanted Ruggiano so badly. Would have been a great 4th outfielder and platoon bat with Lind at DH. Marlins were willing to trade him for anything...

It's more about him being an ignorant old man.

This. This. This.

f*** so many of you guys don't see the bigger picture here. Alex doesn't have a move to make unless it involves trading our best prospects.

Also what's bad about having one of Stroman or Hutch start? Goins clearly isn't a piece or anything, but at least the guy can play defense. We're not sacrificing both sides of the game a la JPA and that's a blessing.

We dont know for sure what AA moves he can make - that doesnt come out till after the fact.

I'm looking at a team that went 74 - 88 and is seriously considering not doing any major changes but expecting lets say...a modest increase of wins? Based on a bunch of "what ifs" and "bounce backs"?

I find it hilarious that AA has talked about the free agent market or trade market being expensive...late breaking news? Lol

You've already committed to win-now.

I keep trying to tell myself that there's just no way IzGoins can be as bad as what we had at 2B last year. There's just no way Izturis repeats the season he just had, so by default we'll be better at 2B. We just wanted better. Same can be said about catcher. I'd rather hold on to our farm than make a dumb move at this point. Whatever guys...

Barring any major surprises either positive or negative, my gut tells me we can expect to win around 85 games. Top-6 AL offence, bottom-6 rotation. If everything goes right, perhaps 90, with our usual level of luck as of late, perhaps 75.

Looking forward to the rebuild. Hoping our tradeable assets stay healthy and have good seasons by the deadline.

Yeah... There are some serious issues.... Don't think there are many options out there... Would have loved to have Yunnel playing second or short.

If you were not so dumb I'd think you're joking.

I don't get this.. if Ohka is not a good knuckleballer, meaning his pitches don't have much movement, how's he providing any value to a catcher?

I'm just going by his mediocre success in a second rate Japanese league. He's at very best a work in progress.

Posted
I actually think with all this focus on the rotation, the team's lack of positional depth is being strongly overlooked. Reyes is pretty much the only above average middle infielder on this team and there is no guarantee that his legs will hold up for a full year on the turf (I know last year was a fluke but still). Lawrie or Edwin are also the only real options at the corners and an injury to either one could be devastating considering the other options and the fact that we're still missing a legit right-handed bat to platoon with Lind. The outfield is in a slightly better shape with Gose as the 4th OFer but he's also far from a sure thing offensively.

Unfortunate Alex seems to have his blinders on again and is completely neglecting the area that's easiest to fix.

You mean you aren't good with a middle infield of Goins, Macier with Tolleson, Schimpf or Laroche backing them up?

Posted
Don't get your hopes up pal, uncle Pauly has way too big of an ego to let that happen.

True, obviously.

That leaves one other option to hope for, and that is that this club loses as many games as possible, whilst Encarnacion, Bautista, Reyes, Rasmus, Dickey, Buehrle, Morrow, Janssen, Santos, Delabar, Cecil, McGowan (lol), Izturis, and Navarro (forget anyone?) stay healthy and have good seasons and raise their trade value. We then commence the tear-down and harvest a nice crop of top-150 prospects and promising players/reclamation projects 25yrs and under. Could be a golden age for this place, F5 buttons would be exterminated far and wide.
