Funky Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Started thinking about this a few days ago. In hockey I cheer for the Kings and would be severely pissed if Kopitar, Doughty, or Carter were traded as they are all young core pieces signed long term to good contracts. They have all been high draft picks and have playoff success. I look at the Jays and see a team sitting on the fence. Do we go all in and sell our future for a run, or do we take off the rose color glasses, forget the gutting of the farm last year and start fresh. I start with our core (guys to build a team around), wont include prospects EE - in prime, signed cheap - would be pissed if he was traded JBats - when healthy great plate presence, good contract, but over 30, injured a lot - sell high Reyes - could be superstar material, love him but injuries and nasty contract - on fence Lawrie - has the potential but hasn't shown consistency needed to be true core piece - young, cheap so keep Rasmus - so inconsistent and free agent to be, I would sell high for youth. That's all I can think of Our starters our either old, injury prone, or suck. If Dickey was 28 I would consider him We have an elite bullpen, but that supplements a core and we have an overstock Closer - we have 2, we are spoiled, they could be the new Henke, Ward. But again supplement a proper core I guess maybe I stopped drinking the punch, but this team as assembled looks like crap. Saying that we have some sell high pieces that could fetch a fortune in prized prospects. We have 2 high 1st round picks coming and at least 2 strong arms ready soon. In my opinion we need to forget about last years gutting and start a rebuild. I am not saying trade for guys years away but trade for guys ready to break out. Profar, Shelby Miller types. Just think, trading a JBats for Profar gives us money to pay a Tanaka. Back to my title response though. The only player I would lose sleep in trading would be Edwin and possibly Lawrie as I think he will blossom. The rest are either to old to be able to help when the team is ready to compete, or too expensive to keep around for this little false hope party AA has constructed
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Edwin mostly Lawrie maybe I think he still has all star potential
The_DH Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 You can't get stuck on any one player. It all comes down to the trade. Think about it this way: would you trade any one of those guys for Trout? Yep and happy to do it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I honestly don't think there's a player who I'd be devastated by trading specifically. If it's at a fair price (legitimate worry), everyone should be available.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 John McDonald…oops they traded him like a couple of years ago.
Brenner Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Brett Lawrie is the only one because I think he is on the cusp of finally breaking out, so I don't think we'd get proper value. We traded a #3 quality SP for him at the time, to make it worth while we'd have to get a clear cut Ace which I don't think would happen. Everyone else has established their value and as long as we got equal return I'd be fine trading them. I would be disappointed though to trade EE or Reyes only because I enjoy watching them play, same with Morrow when healthy.

If it's at a fair price (legitimate worry), everyone should be available. That's just it. I want the moon for Edwin but if I got it (top notch starter plus a top prospect) I'd do it
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 If the return is good, I'd be okay with anyone being traded
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Lawrie is obviously young enough to change what he is doing at the plate but until he stops hitting so many balls on the ground he'll never be the slugging percentage guy that projection sites even predict him at this year. I'd like to see him do like Heyward and up the FB/LD rate a bit and see the HR's get into the 20's (Heyward happened to do this in his 3rd season). If he doesn't make any changes this year to his batted ball data, I'd be more than willing to move him. However, if he has another year where 70 percent of his hits are singles (23% of those being infield singles) he'll probably have less value than he's actually worth so it's not worth dealing him. What I'm saying is that i think this is the year where we see the real Brett Lawrie, if things with the bat don't improve much, start looking at this as his true bat
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Any trade has the potential to be a devastating trade if the players aren't valued properly.
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Would be devastated if they traded Lawrie because I still feel like he has all star potential, also he's my favorite player and I just got his jersey
Flashman Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The Halladay trade provided a kinda immunisation. After Doc left, no trade will ever be hard again.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Halladay and McGowan Sentimental I guess
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I would've been devastated if JPA had been traded as I would've lost a 1M bet I had with myself that no team would be willing to give up as much as a bag of balls to pay him 2M. On a more serious note, I'm all in favor of trading anyone as long as you're improving the team, short or long term.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 There's not one player on this team I like enough that I would be pissed off if they traded. Depends on the deal I guess. That being said I don't think they should have a revolving door either. Give a chance for the roster to gel. The team had a big transitioning period from 1989-1991 before they had a chance to gel in 1992-93. Of course their version of the "gelling period" back then was 89 wins and a couple of quick exits from the playoffs, not 74 wins and last place. So really who knows what this team is capable of next year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Ftfy Yeah I really am a huge Stroman fanboy. He really looks like he could be ready to be a middle of the rotation starter as early as this season and will be league minimum for years. But I'd trade him in a package for Hamels in a heartbeat.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Frasor and his wife were sent to Chicago and our lives continued. http://mopupduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/camp-frasor.jpg
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Mrs. Frasor (the one on the right) is so my type it's not even funny
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Mrs. Frasor (the one on the right) is so my type it's not even funny I would swim up the Amazon with 45 pound dumbbells tied to my scrotum and Ellen Degeneres’ queef as my air supply if it meant I could eat a seafood dinner with her over skype on a dial up internet connection. A pair of boobs have more power than 100-horsepower. ( . Y . )

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 After Doc, I can handle anyone being traded.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Lol, last few posts killed me. Mrs. Frasor is unreal.
Caper Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I was devestated when they traded Yan Gomes.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The Jays scored the 9th most runs last season, With many players injured or shutdown early. The offense will be fine. Rotation needs an upgrade, But this team can likely contend as it stands now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Is that Zaun? NO. David Ortiz Golf-classic
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Halladay and Syndergaard. Mike Trout probably, since I'd learn that he was up for trade and the Blue Jays weren't the ones to get him. I was sort of devastated over the Fister trade. On the current roster, the one's that'd hurt me the most to lose are Rasmus, Stroman and Lawrie. That's about it. I would swim up the Amazon with 45 pound dumbbells tied to my scrotum and Ellen Degeneres’ queef as my air supply if it meant I could eat a seafood dinner with her over skype on a dial up internet connection.
