G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 This is a pretty good read
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Then there is this: A-Rod left the Mariners and they won an AL record 116 games. He left the Rangers and they went from 71 wins to 89. Pujols left the Cardinals and they arguably have been the NL’s best team since. The Red Sox traded Gonzalez and Crawford and became champions. In other words, there is life after abandonment.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I wonder what its like to cheer for a winning baseball team It was fun. 20 years ago.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Yankees Open To Trading Ichiro Suzuki By Charlie Wilmoth [December 8 at 10:14am CST] The Yankees have begun discussing Ichiro Suzuki in trade talks with other clubs, Chad Jennings of the Journal News reports. Jennings notes that this does not mean an Ichiro deal is imminent. The Yankees now have a surplus of outfielders after agreeing to terms with Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran. Since the news of the Beltran acquisition, it's also emerged that the Yankees would be open to trading Brett Gardner, who would make a far more attractive trade candidate than Ichiro would. Jennings notes that other teams are likely to view Ichiro as a bench player. The 40-year-old outfielder hit just .262/.297/.342 last season, although he was effective defensively. Ichiro will make $6.5MM in 2014 in the second year of a two-year deal.

The Dodgers, with the biggest increase ever last season, would be the second team...with some other team (can't think of who right now) adding to the "barely any increase in wins" category.

Sounds like a Breaking Blue article. Wasn't the other team Washington 2012?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Sounds like a Breaking Blue article. Wasn't the other team Washington 2012? I believe it was. I know Detroit was one of the biggest failures. Washington interestingly enough were still set at 80.5 in the over/under totals that year as bettors/Vegas were not buying into the payroll increase. Might have to do with the supposed improvement of all those other teams in their division (Marlins were set at 83.5, Braves 87.5 and Phillies 96.5)
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Apparently the Mariners literally outbid themselves for Cano. Via Evan Grant of Dallas Morning News (and Michael Young MVP fame): "By mid-day Friday, Seattle had heard that some team bid nine years and $225 million for Robinson Cano, so the Mariners upped their bid to $240 million and 10 years before apparently realizing the initial bid had come from themselves, too." http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas-rangers/headlines/20131206-grant-with-all-of-mlb-going-crazy-on-friday-texas-rangers-took-care-of-mundane-chore-remain-lurking.ece

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I'm really hoping AA can swoop in and steal some of the Mariners top young pitching and some of their young middle infielders.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Also the Mariners have to have some more moves coming. I can't wait to see what Jack Z does next haha
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 With this new Encarnacion rumor out there ..... What would Jack Z give up to pair him with Cano????
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 With this new Encarnacion rumor out there ..... What would Jack Z give up to pair him with Cano???? probably Walker, Zunino, Griffey's frozen head, his first born child and his left nut.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 probably Walker, Zunino, Griffey's frozen head, his first born child and his left nut. We need to let Jack Z keep his nuts and first born. Maybe they'll breed more really dumb GM's for us to exploit!
