KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Does Rasmus extend knowing that he's moving to LF? Also, I'm still not convinced Gose is a starter in this league. He's a fringy starter at CF at best and if you use him to push Rasmus to LF you basically kill Rasmus's value to accomodate that fringy option. It's one or the other not both IMO. That being said if the return for Lind addresses the 2B hole, I'm fine with opening up LF for someone new. Having Melky penciled in as the everyday LF is not a very prudent approach.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 People suggesting we shouldn't trade Lind if the Pirates would part with one of their top 5 prospects, will be the first to complain that we should have sold high on him come June.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Are you sure? Snider was tendered a contract. Pirates still own him.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hold on a minute, the name Austin Meadows was brought up in this thread? The guy who the Pirates watched slash .316/.423/.554 in his first 177 bats with the organization? Yeah um, let's not be THOSE kinds of fans. \o/
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I personally would put Bautista in RF. Not sure on the 2 DH rule. I like a lot of the Pirates prospects, and would trade Lind for the right one in a heart beat. LOL, fixed
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 \o/ Right because a guy who was slated to go first overall for the majority of draft season that happened to do extremely well early on is clearly a guy the Pirates are hoping to trade for Adam Lind. Also 177 at bats is obviously not substantial, but he's no Jacob Anderson.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Does Rasmus extend knowing that he's moving to LF? Also, I'm still not convinced Gose is a starter in this league. Yes, Rasmus would do it I thinks

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Fair enough and you're probably right If I'm AA I ask for one of them. If no, then move on. Would you do it for Tyler Glasnow?
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yeah, you're right though. There's no way the Pirates would part with any of Hanson/Polanco/Meadows for Adam Lind. 3rd best prospects aren't interchangeable. Meadows would be our best prospect and it wouldn't even be close.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yeah, you're right though. There's no way the Pirates would part with any of Hanson/Polanco/Meadows for Adam Lind. I wonder what kind of + would be required to move Lind + for Hanson. That seems like an idea worth exploring.
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I wonder what kind of + would be required to move Lind + for Hanson. That seems like an idea worth exploring. Either way it doesn't matter. Our front office doesn't have the leverage nor leash to start trading what they think are helpful players for prospects. Two years MAX and they're all on their way out. Alex is all about NOW NOW NOW.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Meadows would be our best prospect and it wouldn't even be close. I think a lot of people would take Sanchez over Meadows right now. Sanchez should debut in 2015. Meadows is 3-4 years away.

Yeah you're right. Even if Hanson was knocking down the door (which he isn't), the Jays probably don't do that.

It'd be pretty silly to do so. Aaron Sanchez hasn't thrown 91 innings in a full MiLB season yet. We're not talking about a 32 start arm for a few years either.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Rays 'hopeful' of re-signing James Loney "He's someone that we're interested in, and he knows that," said Silverman. "The good thing for us is he liked it here. We liked him, he fit in well. And we're a known quantity. When he's thinking about other things out there, he won't know what the other clubhouses are like, he won't know what it's like living in that city. And so that gives us a little bit of an advantage. Our wallet isn't as big as other teams', so that's one disadvantage for us." Topkin writes that Loney is a top target for the Rays assuming the price remains reasonable. The Pirates also have strong interes Yessssssssssssssssssss Lind for Jeff Locke+

I wouldn't. Even though Sanchez's is theoretically closer to the majors, there's arguably greater uncertainty around him. At the very least there's certainly no less uncertainty. Give me the guy who is beasting.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 No way in hell we're getting Taillon, Hanson, Polanco, or Glasnow. Wake up people.

We're not talking about a 32 start arm for a few years either. Didn't he throw 110 last year? It's a good point though, about the low yearly inning totals. However, he's still thrown 277 innings in his minor league career against 177 at bats for Austin Meadows. It's not like Austin Meadows was hyped up as the next Bryce Harper. He has a lot of tools but he's still an 18 year old who's far away and a lot could happen. That being said, he would certainly be in our top 2. Whether he's #1 or #2, I just don't think there's a significant gap between the two of them.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 No way in hell we're getting Taillon, Hanson, Polanco, or Glasnow. Wake up people. That's what I'm saying. It's Adam Lind. The same guy everyone chanted DFA for over the three years prior to last. Yearly wOBAs: 2010 - .309 2011 - .316 2012 - .316 I think this is the perfect time to sell high on him if someone is willing to offer any kind of asset. Given his salary, even if he did repeat last year's numbers, that's just breaking even/very slight profit value wise. He's honestly like Garrett Jones 2.0 I don't even know why the Pirates want him.

Kazmir 2Ys/22M, independent league pitcher 2 years ago.....The Lind value suffered a substantial increase last year. Shut up and see how the Ninja get something good trading Lind!!!

Adam Lind fundamentally changed his approach when he went down to the minors..he's always had a great swing with easy power....He posted an .812 OPS in the back half of 2012 after returning from the minors and a .854 OPS last year in a year where across the league the offensive numbers were down. He's not the same guy he was in 2010 and 2011...Most want to get rid of him, and anyone can be traded, but he has value so I don't see us getting a great prospect and if you trade for a starter you create a hole and fill another. Keep the asset, go sign a starting pitcher...When Lindy hit's 28 bombs next year and has a solid .350 OBP you'll be glad we kept him..
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 When Lindy hit's 28 bombs next year and has a solid .350 OBP you'll be glad we kept him.. I'm not saying throw him away or anything. Obviously I would be thrilled if he puts up the line you just suggested, but I don't see that as likely (at least not something we can comfortably expect). I think we should take the deal if a team is willing to pay an asset based on the line he put up last year. It's simply selling high.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Agreed old friends What do you think about the off season thus far. Please be detailed in your analysis Uh oh.. looks like your dup accounts are slipping past the mods:(
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yes, let's dump a two win player who is on a reasonable contract for nothing. Lind has shown flashes the last few years. If he commits to his body and ups his daily workout regimen from 10 to 20 pushups we might have a late bloomer on our hands here.
