But oh look, a trade within a division. What a f***ing surprise, huh AA?

I really like this trade for the A's right now, but the Rangers could also come out ahead eventually. Even though he hasn't been as impressive as I expected him to be at this point, I've always liked Choice.

I just feel like Gentry was made to play in Oakland.

I also don't see Choice going all Cargo on the A's, I think it's worth risking.

As are busy. I wonder if this means they really didn't believe in Choice longterm. Maybe like a Michael Taylor

Damn, almost all the players I wanted the Jays to get, even the Plan B's, have been scooped up by everyone but us.

Not sure what to think of this. Gentry is a great add for Oakland, especially with three years of control remaining. Choice is a very good prospect in his own right, but Texas doesn't exactly have a surplus of quality outfielders. Not sure why they made this move.

Daniels rarely makes mistakes (Prince/Kinsler perhaps being one of them).

I expect some sort of follow up move triggered by this.

Daniels has money, so he has more options that the Rays, Indians, A's smart FOs. He doesn't necessarily need to squeeze every last drop of value from his players.

I bet they sign a CF now, and let Cruz go.n.

I can see them signing Ellsbury

Also, Prince/Kinsler was not a mistake. Prince is going to bounce back and bop 50 next year in Arlington.

I don't remember how much money was exchanged so I can't argue honestly, but trading for a 30+ year old 1B with weight issues, declining numbers and an albatross of a contract is often a mistake. Even if he is a good player. Especially when you trade an up the middle stud for him.

Kinsler was an up to middle stud exactly once in his career (2011). He's a decent player but he's paid like he's more then that. Combine that and the need to play Profar and if anything the fact that he was moved in the deal is a positive.

I think saying the deal was good because it made room for Profar is a bit of a fallacy. But I agree that saying stud was an exaggeration.

He also provided one of the funniest baseball GIFs of the year:

He's an overpaid declining assett, that's the main point. Having Profar makes it even better but even if they moved Kinsler and went to free agency it would make sense.

Oh I agree. Just not sure which overpaid declining asset I prefer.

And I want to reiterate I don't remember how much cash was exchanged in the deal, so I really don't have the full picture.

I have to say I like this deal for Tex. Choice has cut his K rate at each level and has 30 HR power. Gentry is an ideal 4th OF but he's already 30 and is really more of a platoon bat (career 81 wRC+ vs R). I've been wrong before...

I wonder if Choice can be a lower K guy and a big power guy, but I like his chances better in Texas than in Oakland. Oakland won't bend as much as Texas did on Gentry's splits. He'll see 60 to 70% lefties IMO and do well there in 150 PA. Stops Seth Smith from seeing lefties too.

A year ago this trade would have been unthinkable. I don't see any reason that Choice can't get his Ks under 25% based on his MiLB track record.

What Seth Smith? :P

Todd Stottlemeyer 2.0!

It's funny. You would think falling flat on your face like that would slow down your momentum and yet there he goes flying past the bag.
