Hey, I hope you don't mind but I'm going to tweet those numbers.

Sure, they are on the MLC leaderboards. Just be careful about how you frame the data. For example, David Robertson is one of the higher looking K% guys in MLB according to MLC, and he has a phenomenal curveball.

Yeah, I agree. Roy Halladay had a terrific curveball too, but without looking at the numbers I'm guessing he got a lot more guys looking with it than swinging. I thinks it's more a question of the type of curveball, the deception than the quality.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but I would think it would have been more from swings. In the MLB Halladay originally had that big knuckle curve, which if I remember right he overhauled because it was so hard to throw for strikes that people were just laying off it. I kind of doubt that minor leaguers would have laid off it.

Probably as far as the minor leaguers. I looked up Halladay's swingstr% while with the Blue Jays though and compared it to other pitchers that had thrown 800ip from 2002-2009 and he came in 41st out of 107 pitchers.

Make sure that you mention they are from MLC. They aren't known for their accurate data. I just wouldn't go and say it's 100% factual. On stats like swinging and looking they are probably pretty accurate but they are just taking their stats from pitch by pitch data. I know the GB rates and stuff like that aren't anywhere close to 100% (but it's never stopped me from quoting them).

Excellent work so far guys. Loved the concept of the blog and think it's great choices as writers.

Knuckle curve, you sure you're not thinking of Burnett?

I know Halladay had/has a knuckle curve, but I'm not 100% sure if he was the guy who abandoned it because he couldn't throw strikes with it or not.

Check it out and visit regularly! Still getting things going, but you guys get the first look!

Noticed a pretty egregious mistake. Sabermetrics is mispelled right on the main page (and in the article as well).

I spelled it the Canadian way! Jeez everyone lol, I thought it was best since it's a Canadian site.

But I guess we should switch it for search engines.

You have it spelled both ways in the article.

I'm not sure if your being serious here or just pulling my leg but there's no such a thing as a Canadian spelling since is that nothing to do with the word sabre (or saber). It's from SABR (Society of American Baseball Research).

Sorry for being so pedantic but I think it's important for the credibility of the article to show an understanding of where the term comes from. If you want to adopt a facetious Canadian spelling as a joke then it needs an asterisk and an explanation. Otherwise it just looks bad.

so assumed it could be said (and spelled) both ways.

You might be right and I'm probably over-reacting. I'm not versed enough in linguistics (especially English linguistics) to really know for sure what the conventions are when building words from an acronym. In any case, consistent spelling is a must and as you said the conventional spelling is probably better for SEO. If you go the other way, you'd always have to defend it to other nit-pickers like me which would get old.

I have noticed that there is no icon in Chrome in my page tabs or bookmark for this site. You put a maple leaf as the icon for the forum, any plans to add something?

Jays discussed KEMP?! No way! Check out the quick article:

http://www.breakingblue.ca/2013/11/21/dodgers-jays-discussed-matt-kemp-trade/

One suggestion: When doing a projected surplus calc, it's pretty easy to add a simple inflation rate. 1 WAR may cost $9M now but it won't 6 years from now. A static, 7-10% increase is the standard back of the envelope method.

Lots of these big contracts are essentially bets on inflation.

"Besides, the Jays aren’t going to be replace his 200 innings if they even manage to find another pitcher capable of doing that this offseason."

On the topic of blogs. this guy is super dumb.

I Really thought "jaysjournal" was a decent blog site.

Even though there are a lot of Jays blogs out there, there's not a whole lot that's good which is why Breaking Blue could actually fill a niche. TaoOfStieb is a good blog but post have become too infrequent. As annoying as Stoeten can be, he's still pretty much the only game in time as far as a Jays blog that stays on top of current news and offers not horrible analysis.

I guess the Br or the Bl would make a nice browser tab logo. I took me a while to understand the 92 and 93. I was looking at the table of elements thinking there is no BL and the number is wrong for Br and then it finally hit me, those are the World Series years.

I'll get an icon up for the site tonight, thanks for the note.

Also guys, let's not bash other sites, they might think twice about linking to ours one day.

I suggested Breaking Bird a while back since 'Bi'smuth is an element, and Bird sounds more like Bad. Doesn't really matter though. :P

The R.A. Dickey Effect has been released for 2013! How much is it worth? Read to find out:

Cool! The tables should be converted to html though to make them visible to the search engines and easier to read.

You should submit the links for these things to MLBTR as they're published. That would increase the number of visitors to the site by a ton.
