KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Yes I did the ZiPS team projections and we were 2nd in AL behind Angels if I recall. Behind the Angels? Well that sure didn't work out.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Who projected massive declines from Pujols and Hamilton? No one. Presumably projections whiff on Pujols because they go by his listed age.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Who projected massive declines from Pujols and Hamilton? No one. Would be interesting if somebody created a metric to account for the near-universal phenomenon of star players suddenly falling off a cliff when signing deals for 7+ years at $20M+.

You'd have to target it to contracts that were considered big at the time of signing. Otherwise the sample size would probably be too small.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Who projected massive declines from Pujols and Hamilton? No one. This is sarcasm I assume.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 As long as there's an extension involved, I still don't like it though. Why? If Jays can get him on a good deal..... they can only hope in a few years that Sanchez establishes himself as having the floor of a very good mid-rotation guy with the ability to be a fonrt-end one. It would actually be a hard deal to lose unless you really thought Sanchez was a cant miss ace
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Who projected massive declines from Pujols and Hamilton? No one. Not 2k13!..lol.. Think they had them at 96 overall and best team in mlb
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Sure, that's the flip of course, how about the ++ you're forgetting about that? Yeah depends what that is of course but if Stroman isnt one of the "+" 's, I'm not too worried about it.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 lol.......what if it's Hutch and Gose? Same indifference, I personally see Hutch as a strong 3, not to mention what Gose is capable of? That would be tough. Jays need some young SP. Hutch and Stroman are the only hope in near future. I dont know though. I really like Shark. I would do Sanchez + Gose + Drabek + Pillar and be ok with it. assuming extension. Not sure if they would bite though
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 This is sarcasm I assume. Did you predict the type of declines in 1-2 years that they saw? I sure didn't. I knew they were going to be SHITE by the time the deals expired, but not in the first 1-4 years.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 MLBTR Cubs Interested In Storen, Clippard Delabar/Cecil +++ for Shark
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 MLBTR Cubs Interested In Storen, Clippard Delabar/Cecil +++ for Shark f*** me if he is traded for that lol.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 f*** me if he is traded for that lol. Delabar/Cecil + Nolin + Gose
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Delabar/Cecil + Nolin + Gose That would give me a little more faith in AA after most was lost last year.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 You'd have to target it to contracts that were considered big at the time of signing. Otherwise the sample size would probably be too small. Granted. Still, that'd be interesting to see.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Who projected massive declines from Pujols and Hamilton? No one. Your gut didn't tell you to expect anything else? Lifetime guaranteed financial security robs people of a huge reservoir of motivation, no matter what they do for a living.

I don't know if this was already mentioned, but jesus f***.

I don't think it was, but I saw that a few mins ago. I hope AA told them where they could go.

Suicide watch will be at high alert for posters on this board if that deal happens

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 That would just be so f***ing dumn.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 A bunch of people here think we can get him without either Stroman or Sanchez lol. I suspect most presumed one or the other in the package The fact that they want both is obviously why AA (thankfully) hasn't done it
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I suspect most presumed one or the other in the package The fact that they want both is obviously why AA (thankfully) hasn't done it I bet the third prospect they want isn't a scrub either.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I bet the third prospect they want isn't a scrub either. Fair assumption Theo ain't no dope
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 That deal is making me enraged even as a rumor.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 AA already proved willing to part with his top 2 prospects for Dickey so I can see why the Cubs would ask for so much. We'll see what happens.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 AA already proved willing to part with his top 2 prospects for Dickey so I can see why the Cubs would ask for so much. We'll see what happens. AA has pretty much stated he won't deal both, and I doubt he does.

This shouldn't surprise anybody. I'd rather give Sanchez+Stroman for Samardzija than I would give Syndergaard+d'Arnaud for Dickey. We know that and the Cubs know that. If I was Epstein I'd be offended if they offered anything less after seeing how they opted to so readily let the Mets penetrate them last year.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 AA has pretty much stated he won't deal both, and I doubt he does. I certainly hope he doesn't, I'm just saying, given what he gave up for Dickey, I don't think we'd be shocked.
