Kottaras is a backup lol. Doesn't mean the Cubs automatically now move Castillo.

I know lol. But it would be an interesting concept. Would make me feel less butt hurt if we do indeed package Sanchez to the cubs. Still don't think the cubs would trade him but you never know. Anything is possible when dealing with AA lol.

I want Public recognition if I am right, That mean JFaS makes a blog about me lol.

JFaS neurons shouldn't be wasted in this way, He'll be the Fat greek successor......Lo siento por ti.

You know what this means. Castillo must be coming to us with Samardzija; the Cubs needed a replacement.

Well, they did need a backup catcher with Navarro leaving. However with where they're at in a rebuild, Castillo may net them more value towards that rebuild by trading him now. They could always take JPA as part of the return (which is only 1 year different in control anyhow). Like I said, for where they're at, JPA + good prospects may be better than Castillo without.

So here's a question. Let's say AA was able to get Samardzija + Castillo + Castro. Would people be upset to lose Sanchez + Stroman ++ in the deal if that was the return?

Id rather us going after Alacantra or Baez (Pip dream really) instead of Castro. He'd get extremely exposed on our surface defensively

Depends what the ++ is. But if that was the deal, we'd be getting young/young'ish assets. It was frustrating as f*** getting players in their mid-late 30's along with other big names in their late 20's and early 30's last year. We pretty much said here...."take a chink of our farm and we'll take your aging expensive vets who are close to retirement or being done" It was just plain stupid.

I'm still waiting for my first semi-chubb of the offseason. Sacrificing the rest of our farm for #4 starters or signing near replacement-level FA's isn't exactly doing it for me.

LOL sweet avatar (The Cat's Ass)

Lind is decent but he had a couple bad years and now people don't want to admit that they were wrong about him. They won't be able to complain much after this year when he likely puts up similar numbers to last year.

Am I the only one that's high on Sierra? If he matures a little and learns how to take better routes at balls in the OF, he'd be a solid starter. I see him hitting .265 15-20 HR 30+ 2B 75 RBI if given enough playing time.

Someone earlier compared Sierra to Thames but the only thing Thames had going for him was some pretty sweet sideburns. Sierra has tools! Just ask Buck and Tabler LOL

Sierra has a strong throwing arm.

He's also has a bat that oozes potential. I see a lot of EE in Sierra. It took EE a while to tame his swing...I think we need to hang on to Sierra.

I am ok with Sierra as a bench option to maybe platoon with Lind and provide added depth for the OF. Assuming we don't trade him or Gose, having both on the bench might not be such a bad thing. A bench of Gose/Sierra/Izturis/Thole could work. Not a very good hitting bench, but Gose provides great D and Sierra could be a very cheap platoon partner for Lind and who knows maybe he builds a bit of trade value in the process. Izturis can cover 3B, SS and 2B and Bautista can move to 3B in a pinch as well. Thole is not the best option as a backup, but I do expect him to bounce back somewhat with the bat. Could be a high risk/high reward bench, but dirt cheap as well.

The numbers don't really bear that out. Edwin showed more power in the minors and early in his MLB career than Sierra ever has. The arm is his only plus tool. That being said he will only be asked to be a platoon player so the bar might just be low enough for him to work out.

Fair enough, I think Sierra is a late bloomer though. At this point his skill set is ahead of his baseball IQ but it caught up a bit last year and I could see him having even more success next year and so on. Sierra's value is higher to us than to another team in a trade.

I'd keep Sierra over Gose personally. I don't think Gose will ever hit enough to be a starter.

Gose is still a young pup you can't give up on that, plus you know he's going to give you great D and base running while Sierra may hit but won't give you much else.

I'm not a fan of late bloomers.

I don't think that will ever change

I'm fairly confident Sierra's lapses in the OF, poor routes & reads on balls and over confidence in his arm will prevent him from being a consistent starting OF anywhere.

His arm isn't even plus because he can't hit a target when rushed and can't think fast enough to know whether he ha a play on the lead runner or should hit the cut off man. He's basically useless unless he can OPS at least .800 against lefties.

The only play on a lead runner would be at 3rd or home and in most if not every case hitting the cutoff man or getting the ball into 2B is the best/safer play.

What would you rather have?

Gose - solid D, .235 average 5 HR, 25 doubles, 6 Triples, 30 RBI

Sierra - avg D, .260 average 15 HR, 30 doubles, 2 triples, 65 RBI

Bolded are unlikely. Gose will have more than solid D imo, Sierra's defense costs us many wins, and I don't think Sierrra has that kind of power. Also, you're kind of looking at the wrong stats to be frank with you lol. I don't give a damn how many RBIs my light hitting defense-first speedy CF gets me. I actually don't care about RBI period, but especially not with Anthony Gose.

If history is predicting the future, Gose has put up a very similar BA throughout the minors at a younger age, a better OBP, and a slightly lower SLG. And if Gose is manning CF and Sierra is gonna scare the s*** out of me playing RF or LF.....I'll take Gose everyday of the week.

And seeing that both have shown to be reckless/green base runners Gose wins there, because he can likely outrun most of his mistakes.....Sierra looks like an absolute fool running through stop signs getting gunned by 20-30 feet.

What potential do you see?

I thought he took a big step this year compared the previous year. I thought he was a dime a dozen player 2 years ago but he really impressed me during his tenure with the Jays this past year.

I still think his swing needs to be shortened and he has plenty of work to do in the OF but most of his mistakes are between the ears...which makes me think they can be corrected.

Saltalamacchia As a whole, his year wasn't that impressive. Low BB%, high K% , average bat in AAA. Pretty sure Marty Brown called him out publicly a few times for being brain dead on the baseball field. He's being moved to 1B now too.. Which makes his value even lower. He has no options left, it's time to cut ties.

To be fair, it was more than 20% of the season and he hit .290. That's more than just a few weeks...

We haven't had that kind of rookie production since Lawrie's 1st year and before that Aaron Hill's 1st year...and before that, Eric Hinske's 1st year!

whoops, this is the post I meant to reply too:

Sierra also had an OPS of .827 over 35 games. It's a small sample size but it's hard to ignore.

I agree with you. I think the guy really needs to get some playing time so we can see what we have in him. He's got some raw power, the thing that I know isn't correctable is he really just ain't very smart... you can look at him and the look on is face an he consistently looks lost. But I think he's a good fit off the bench, wouldn't wanna move him. You know another guy who looks a little stunned and had raw power and then got traded? Our very own Edwin.

Trade Bautista and Rasmus. Play Sierra and Gose in the OF everyday. Goins at 2B. Jimenez to starting catcher ASAP. Stroman, Nolin and Hutch start in the rotation.

I know I would have more fun watching that team than the team we watched last year.

Ummm...that's rather drastic. Are we getting 2 front of the rotation starters in return?
