Just ignore him and apply that stylish fix I posted a long time ago (unless you're one of the unlucky ones it doesn't work for). The only time you see them is if someone quotes them to complain about what idiots they are...

Meh, we'll just start a new board if this one gets Dogg infested :D :P

Does Sierra even have any real value? I am sure he has some, but it can't be anything of real relevance.

No Gm in their right mind would move anything of value for the guy when he's out of options.

So in other words you're saying there's a handful of GM's that might?

I can't get my head off of this subject. I'm just not really seeing the 9M or 10M figure anywhere.

For anyone else who cares, this comment thread has an abundance of information. Tango, MGL, Swartz, and others commenting on a pretty good study.

http://tangotiger.com/index.php/site/comments/how-much-do-wins-cost

I also found this 1-2 year old Swartz study that looks like it found about ~6M in 2011 with a trend of roughly ~6% inflation. So say 7.25M this offseason. This corroborates the more recent study from the first post.

More than anything though, I've found the question to be extremely complicated. It's obvious that the cost/win in free agency isn't the cost/win in all of baseball. The most efficient way to add wins is through league min and low arb players. The Rays pay like 2 million bucks per win, or something like that. The Blue Jays probably paid a near free agency rate for all of their wins above replacement last season. A win near the 90 win mark is worth a lot more than a win anywhere else, so value is very relative. $/WAR value calculations might be more dubious than informative in some circumstances. I'm wary of the entire exercise.

Variants are different between FA cost vs NON-FA

There are factors that make the cost vary in free agency:

1 - The Quality of the free agency.

2- The free agent market is volatile and sometimes lacks common sense

3 - The need for a team with a stupid manager (Moore-Vargas).

4 - The team economic power (Phillies, Dodgers)

5 - The performance of X player year before free agency (Johnson down, Ervin Santana up)

6 - Draft picks

How much the Blue Jays need to invest to reach 90 wins?

We don't mind the emotional situation of you two, If you are touching each other or not, they are not issues that interested us. In the cybernetic world he's a Dogg and that's all that matters.

College??? I always thought University types looked down on colleges? So was all that Ryerson talk a few years back was a line of s***? And if it was BS, being a Christian he shouldn't be lying otherwise that's punishable by death of a firing squad isn't it?

We're on a baseball forum....he can be twice the person we are in public all he wants. Being a retard on a baseball forum is what he is on here.

LOL. I thought about adding in that Moore, Amaro, and Jack Z are probably interested.

I'd rather Alex try and move these guys like Sierra for another similar prospect we may be able to use like an Adam Morgan from Philly. Get a piece back for Sierra that may actually be of use.

That's awful. If we have a lind sierra combination at 1st might as well close up shop now

Edwin would still get the bulk of 1B start but if Sierra can handle a little first then Edwin could slide to DH from time to time agains LHP. Bautista would also get a lot of DH starts in a scenario where Sierra is the right-handed complement to Lind. He's probably no worse than Derosa would have been in that role.

I'm praying to my 3rd-world gods, asking them your phone explode and die ASAP.

And yes, Sierra isn't a good choice for our bench; trade him for something like him but optionable.

Truth is hard to swallow huh

This franchise is in the state it's in because of choices like persisting with Lind. Not developing power hitters and a fan base that's willing to accept mediocrity

Mediocrity invade all a nation. Casual fans are easy to deceive.

Anyone else besides me think that Corey Hart can bring us a very sexy offensive line?

Good by low option. From everything I heard he is basically committed to going back to the Brew Crew unless something changed that I am not aware of.

I really can't get on board with this. Sierra could barely hit AAA pitching at an average level last year, and Steamer has him at an 88 wRC+. I don't think the bat plays at DH, even in a platoon. Combine that with the fact that he'll get OF innings if he's on the roster, and IMO we have a replacement-level player, or worse.

Yeah you might be right. I didn't really research my post. Sierra has hit lefties well in the majors but the sample size has no real value. The main point I wanted to address was the idea that him and Lind would play a lot of 1st which makes no sense as long as Edwin is around. As for Sierra, just becaue one can find a role for him doesn't mean one should. Giving jobs to crappy players just because they are out of options really shouldn't be part of the m.o. at this point. The best use of Sierra would have been to convert him to pitchers but for whatever reason AA treated him like he was a legit OF prospect and now that he's out of options, it's too late for the conversion. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Sierra became this year's version of Eric Thames, kicking around for longer than he should despite a limited skill set and no real upside.

Hart in, Melky/Lind out, Sierra back to the s*** zone

Thanks for the fake update Dogg.

I expect this happen. That he's taking 1B reps kind of suggests that the org has him in mind as the RH platoon option at 1B/DH with Lind as the other half. As you say, a very similar role to DeRosa's. Ultimately I think it will be a spot that produces nothing.

And then we trade him for an Ace Reliever?

I wouldn't mind getting Samardzija as a 3 or 4 guy, but I would not give up more than Sierra + Nolin and a fringe prospect for him. Maybe that's unrealistic, but if so then it's not worth it.

Borderline 1st/2nd tier production from a 1b platoon for around 8m.

Not bad, IMO.

No point in trying to explain to him about how Lind is an above average hitter at a below average price. He has it out for him. I think Lind must have f***ed his sister or mother or even MohYou himself, and never called him back.

Yes but Lind needs a demolisher partner.

I joked about this a bit yesterday but I heard some rumors that the Cubs may look to deal Castillo. If there is any truth to it I think he would be an interesting option. Although I don't think his defense would be a huge upgrade over Ceeebs.
