No Profar or Stantonnnnnnnnnnnn

I'd pretty much only trade him for a stud pitcher and sign a quality free agent OF.

Agree this particular deal is not happening.

However, I previously thought it was very, very unlikely that Bautista gets traded. Now I'm thinking 50/50. I actually do think AA is shopping him to see what he could get. A quality starter and younger OF and he pulls the trigger, sending Bautista and another piece the other way.

Yeah. Since about August I've been feeling more and more Bautista could be gone.

Yeah. He's probably our best trade chip still, to any team that at least thinks it's a contender but who is short on OF power. Problem is everyone knows how much time he's missed. But that's OK anyway - if some GM will pay big for him, great. If not, AA doesn't have to trade him. Even a .270 BA, 35 HR Bautista is worth what we're paying him.

Amazing how Dom Brown was the top prospect in baseball like 2 years ago and now he's an afterthought.

I'm feeling the same about Profar (even though he plays a premium position)

Says we have no interest in Beckham or Brown

Just our of curiosity is their a place one could find 3 year projections for these guys??

I seem to be in the minority here, but both of these guys seem like good targets. There are worse plans then collecting guys in their mid 20s.

Bautista 33-35 is going to be that much better then Brown 26-29??

George Bell, Jess Barfield, Joe Carter... all fell off a cliff in their early 30s. Doesn't happen to everybody, But there is a chance Dom Brown will outperform Bautista the next 3 years... One would have to take a close look at aging studies to figure it out.

I think Baseball Prospectus used to produce long-term projections, but they didn't meet their accuracy standards so were discontinued.

People tend to use a -0.5 WAR per year for declining players like Bautista. I'd project 4.5, 4.0, 3.5 WAR for his next three years. Brown is an interesting case. Steamer projects 2.0 WAR in 2014, maybe he produces 2.0, 2.0, 2.5, 2.5 for the next four years. That's a big jump down from Jose, even with the salary difference accounted for.

Use a slightly different model and you could get 2.5 a year for Brown, 3 for Bautista....

I think the reaction to "Brown + for Bautista" should be "tell me about the plus??" not "good laugh bro...".

I don't like betting on veteran prescence. Would be much more comfortable betting on 26 year olds with a little bit to prove... You're not going to get Mike Trout so targets are the Brown/Beckham types.

Emotional attachments to athletes is gay.

You tell em! You're kinda like the board's own Jonathan Phelps.

AA probably paid this Philly reporter to post this rumour so when Bautista gets traded for s*** in reality, there will be less uproar because it was better than this trade. We have been conditioned now for low expectations.

Posted
Absolutely...but not if you aren't going to strengthen a weakness. As bad as it would be for the Jays it really is 100 times worse for the Phils. You only trade Bautista to rebuild or to continue the all in mentality and trade him to fill a pitching need.

I hope that pitching need is Tanaka.......so don't want Lee.

Why not just take the best haul he can get instead of limiting himself due to team needs?

Missed the meaning of gay. But that's okay put your spin on it....I'll expect you to be bashing some fans soon and it'll be alright because it's you. And that's okay.

As much as Rogers is willing to increase payroll, blowing 25M a year on Lee would be a terrible idea. As good as he is, we can fill multiple needs with that.

I'd give Tanaka the Darvish contract no problem. It's the posting fees that are crazy expensive. And ridiculously, his might go higher than Darvish's even though he may not be as good.

Eskin just on FAN saying rumour is true. But not for Brown straight up. It will be much more than Brown. Multiply players on both sides.

He also said Jays offered Ruiz 2 year contract, he is asking for a 3rd year

I would have been fine with Brown for Bautista if Franco was also coming our way, and we were getting Lee or Hamels with Buehrle going the other way.

Bautista and Buehrle for Brown, Franco, and Hamels/Lee.

absolutely and can use the $$ saved on something good.... like ruiz

I want to believe. This is different than a normal "fake account" rumour.

But AA said today he hasn't made any free agents offers so I don't believe this at all

Posted
What's good though is AA has talked to Ruiz. Maybe he hasn't made an offer yet but I hope he will.

Yep. He's working every angle. 98% sure he succeeds.

"We have many balls in the air. However, it is not in club policy to comment on specific players. At this time I can tell you that we're engaging in dialogue, both internal and external."

Wow, you could totally be AA there

Gotta love the off season! I feel like Bautista will be traded, but not in the off season. I think it'll be around mid to late July next year as the team admits the "all in" strategy didn't work. He and EE will fetch quite the haul for the next rebuilding phase.
