So it's pretty much certain that Stroman won't be pitching in the Jays organization next year? I can already see the press conference introducing Brandon Phillips as our new 2nd baseman in Toronto.

"We loved Stroman but second base has been a bit of a weak spot for us..."

lol

This will be me the day that happens: "Not Stroman AA you fat bastard! NOT STROMAAAANNNNN!!!!"

For a second there I was worried, and yet I still clicked the link.

You were having visions of Kramer and George weren't you??

Good news. Jays have been in on Pierzynski, Salty, and Ruiz.

The best news of all of this is that we are ready to cut ties with JPA

Even better might be that there was trade interest from other teams regarding JPA.

Where does it say that?

5th paragraph

Regardless, it’s clear the Blue Jays are seriously considering a move away from Arencibia, who has drawn interest from other teams in trade talks despite a dismal 2013.

Right in the tweet... "Arencibia, who has drawn interest from other teams in trade talks..."

Make no mistake, catchers with 30 hr potential will always get picked up by teams that want to be the one to figure out whatever his problem is. Same with pitchers who throw 95 with little command.

I want Ruiz.

What the hell could we get back for JPA? Cash? PTBNL?

I think he actually has more value than that (which I've said for a while now). He alone certainly isn't going to land us a good starting pitcher or anything, but I could see him being a non-trivial piece in a deal for one.

Starting to annoying me that Gibbons/AA keep hiring old friends for the jobs.

Meh, who cares. As long as he knows how to look like he's using a stop watch and gives firm congratulatory ass-pats to guys getting on first, he's perfectly qualified.

Only a f***ing retard wouldn't be excited.....oh sorry Frenchsoup.

Lol it's ok, i would be excited to, i said i would worried about him AND Middlebrooks who i think is a borderline mlb player, don't get me wrong i think Bogarts is a future star i just not sure handing him the reigns is the right move at this point.

STL? DET? BOS? LAD?

Winners with money = short list

I'd add PHI just for lulz cause I can totally see them overpaying him too

I'd actually be pretty pissed if this happened. I have no hope for this regime and I'd rather the next GM not have 6 years and $150 million remaining on a Cano deal. These deals almost always end in disaster.

If you want to beat the WAR drum.. On say a hypothetical 8/200 deal for Cano.. You don't think he's going to surpass 22 WAR? He's a very good bet to give you 18 WAR in the next 4 years.

8/200 would not be that bad honestly. As you mention, there's a pretty solid chance he earns most of that contract in the next couple of years.

But I do understand BTS's point. Cano's extra 5 wins or so that he's going to add next year basically takes us to a projected mid 80s win team. That investment isn't exactly leveraged very well due to the rest of our roster being pretty meh. It sets up for the next regime having to take on the backend/dead money years of the deal which will definitely harm the cleanup process.

If we use 75 as a baseline -- Cano gets it to 80. -- regression to the mean should get it to 85... (even if Arencibia, Melky, Johnson, etc. were brought back they would have to be 5 wins better as a group... )

If they choose the right catcher, the right outfielder (make Melky a 4th outfielder), the right starter... They could get to 90 projected... then it's up to luck.

It comes down to doing the one "big" move right... and 5 small moves right. At this point it doesn't seem like people have faith they could do 5 small moves right.

Nice target for 2B? Or is his defense too weak?

Defense is weak at SS but it might play well at 2B or 3B. It's hard to get a good read on his defensive abilities. He's had years where he was a plus defender and years like last year where he was pretty awful. I'd say he provides enough overall value to be a solid starting option at 2B and he definitely would improve the depth chart at 3B where there really isn't much behind Lawrie. It's in the team's interest to push Goins/Derosa/Izturis further down the depth chart so Lowrie makes a nice target as does anyone decent really.

5 war + 5 war + 5 war + 5 war + 5 war >>>>> 8 war + 7 war + 4 war + 3 war + 3 war
