Exactly

And 55M is a rounding error for a 23 Billion dollar company

Wow I would have thought Rogers was worth more than that for some reason...

David Thompson is worth just as much. Let's get him to buy the Jays and he can spend however he wants. Owning the Jays would be much more fun than the Jets. And he could make it Thompson's Skydome. Fun times for everyone!

Can MLB teams trade with Japan teams?

I can't imagine

Player and MLBPA would have to agree and I can't see that happening, and might be just totally against the MLB rules

I really wish I knew the context of this. Because it will either be hilarious, or completely retarded.

After a quick check with goggle this is Koreas version of a chicken fight. Goal is to know the opposing person down (obviously last one up wins). Why the f*** they are doing this on the mound I guess they don't believe in real physicality.

Golden Eagles Trying To Convince Tanaka To Stay In Japan

By Steve Adams [December 16 at 8:18am CST]

The Rakuten Golden Eagles will try to convince Masahiro Tanaka to stay in Japan for one more season, according to a Sponichi Report passed along by NPB Tracker's Patrick Newman (Twitter link). Taking things a step further, a source indicated over the weekend to George A. King III of the New York Post that Tanaka won't be posted until after the 2014 season.

Of course, the Golden Eagles do not need Tanaka's consent to retain him for another season. However, denying their ace of his wish to come to the United States may not look good to the public and could damage the club's relationship with Tanaka and other players down the line. Last Sunday, Golden Eagles president Yozo Tachibana told reporters that he would likely post Tanaka is he wished to come to MLB.

Reports since then have indicated that the team would struggle with the decision of whether or not to allow Tanaka to come to the Major Leagues or hold him back due to displeasure with the new posting system. As of last Tuesday, Tachibana was planning to speak with Tanaka this week regarding the decision, and assistant GM Aki Sasaki went on record as saying: "I don't know if $20 million is fair value for this kind of trade" (per Yahoo's Jeff Passan).

If there is indeed an announcement that Tanaka will remain in Japan for another season, the starting pitching market should accelerate quickly, with names like Matt Garza, Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez seeing their stocks rise significantly.

Great idea. Tanaka stay in Japan one more year, he get hurt and Rakuten lose 20 millions.

Posted
Even if he gets hurt i'm sure teams would pay up the 20mil. His contract though might suffer.

If Tanaka's arm explode?

No they won't, they will just wait until he gets healthy and then bid for him. The only person that really loses in this situation is Tanaka.

Tanaka will be a free agent in two years. Rakuten could lose him without gaining anything in return.

Toma tus malditos 20 millones ahora!!!

Well what is fair value? MLB teams don't do transfers other than from Japan and those transfers have always been done through a hidden bid process which probably artificially inflated prices. Did any other teams come close to the winning bids on Matsusaka and Darvish? Would the prices have reached those heights in an more open market like the one in soccer? There was nothing especially fair about the old system and there's nothing inherently unfair about the proposed one (it gives the player more leverage which certainly isn't unfair to them). This is just typical sports owner greed talking.

The new system includes a $20M maximum "release fee," as expected. Agreement will be in place for 3 years.

Ben Nicholson-Smith

New posting system officially agreed upon by MLB/NPB. Posting fee cannot exceed $20 million. Multiple high bidders can negotiate with player

This is a celebrity game just before the All-Star game. Like someone said, it's called a chicken fight, and basically they're just doing it for the comedy.
