Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 For anyone interested, Rogers released the 3rd quarter financials today http://www.rogers.com/cms/pdf/en/IR/QuarterlyReport/2013-Q3_Results-Release.pdf Unfortunately they don't break down the Jays specifically, but the media division showed 10% higher profit over the last 3 months (would have been even higher without them buying The Score).
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Sooo.... Cliff Lee??? Rogers was down almost 3%...so.....more like a pitcher worth 1/5th the cost of cliff lee..lol

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 gross LOL. Was just picking a pitcher worth 1/5 of Cliff Lee.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 LOL. Was just picking a pitcher worth 1/5 of Cliff Lee. He's actually worth 25.6% of Cliff Lee. You just got math'd, son.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 But value doesn't quite work like that. The comparison isn't "3.91 Hughes', or Lee and three replacement-level pitchers." You'd rather have one Cliff Lee than 3.91 Phil Hughes', because with Lee you have an opportunity to fill the other four rotation spots with above-replacement options. With the Hughes', you severely limit the potential impact of your rotation unit. Are we really discussing this in real terms? Wow, we're tired of this season aren't we???

This is what the season has come to. sigh.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I may even start cheering for a Red Sox sweep, since it would accelerate the Free Agency calendar by a few days Ban f***ing ban right now
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Cliff Lee is worth 10 to the power of 100 times more than Phil hughes man.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Well, the market has seemed to agree with you. Elite players should be making more than $25M per year. They're exceedingly more valuable than their $15M a year supporting cast. I would assume that a lot of teams simply can't afford to pay players what they're actually worth.

That's what's so crazy about it Kevin Youkilis' 39 year old replacement level ass can get 14M cause he's a "brand name" player Mike Trout makes 500k Felix Hernandez is with 10 times a Youkilis Trout has to wait to get paid I get some of that. Some of it I don't.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Sooo.... Cliff Lee??? Why? I'd rather sink 100M into Tanaka. Atleast near the end of the deal you could move him. That is unless he flops.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Rogers stock price over the past six months basically mimicked the Jays season. Peaked in April and absolutely tanked during the summer with a mild recovery in August/September. Obviously a complete coincidence but funny nonetheless.
