Dream hitting coach? Paul Molitor. Is he doing anything with the Brewers or Twins??

Wasn't Molitor fired when he was hitting coach for the M's?

But if I'm hiring a hitting coach, I'd probably prefer to hire a guy who never really had any substantial major league success. If you get a guy who could actually hit big league pitching, then you run the risk of having a coach that thinks they have the answers, a coach that thinks they know too much about what is essentially a non-science. I would want a humble and open minded hitting coach, not somebody who could potentially be blinded by their own experiences and inadvertently arrogant.

I think this is an excellent point. Guys who have had success their whole careers probably haven't had to make a ton of adjustments. A marginal guy has probably had hitting coaches from 20 teams try to monkey with his approach and mechanics, and has practical experience with many different philosophies.

It could've been, but I remember Molly had a very short stint their.

I think it was just a year, but I do remember that he came there as the salvation for the mariners hitting woes, and they didn't get any better. And as usual, all the experts on the talk shows were calling for his head. So I wasn't surprised that he was let it. It might have been two years that he was there. Too lazy to look it up.

Throw some money at Rick Down and land the best active Charlie Lau theorist coach on the planet. Proven track record and respected. I believe that he's with the Yankees as their minor league hitting director or whatever title they gave him to travel around and teach their affliliate's hitting coaches.

Or steal Rich Gedman now and before he lands a MLB gig, likely in Boston. He is a Walt Hriniak disciple and is considered to be a rising star in the coaching world. Edited by KSaw

I know we're talking about the hitting coach. My point is if Gibbons wants someone that he's more "familiar" with then I'm afraid it's someone like him. Gibbons 2.0 reminds me of Buck Martinez' term as manager. I don't know if it's what he wants or AA pushed for but it seems to involve little development, and very little practice. I think a manager's role (along with his coaches) is quite important. I have little faith in the team as long as he's in charge.

Name-calling someone because they disagree with your opinion is beneath you. In my opinion the manager should be about the 6-10th most important person in uniform.

Whats being said?

They think it's ridiculous and don't understand it

They think AA is under huge pressure to fix the team for 2014 or he's gone

Suggested maybe Motttola was fired for someone Gibby wanted (not yet announced) and Murphy feels slighted and quit

I think I read somewhere that Murph retired so the brain trust decided to clean house. This suggests the opposite. And I agree this has to be the last chance.

blue jays will blame mottola for jpa's suckage and keep jp lmao

nothing's going to change until they fire aa.

mottola got fired? Wtf? I thought he was doing well with players like rasmus, lind and making progress with lawrie. He also is responsible for helping ee become a more selective hitter.

f*** you aa.

this is f***ing ********. If jpa is back next year, i'm personally calling for aa's head.

they had to blame someone, f*** logic, they probably picked the guy they were gonna fire through a game of eenie-meenie-minnie-mo.

Mottola was just the unlucky guy. Even though it makes no sense.

oh my god this team

well now, nice to learn aa is making those big offs-eason moves that will make a real difference *shrug*

aa is pissed mottola was preaching to use the whole field. #pulldatball#jpaline

are you kidding me?

What the actual f***. Why is mottola getting fired? s***, even with bautista and rasmus out in the last ~1.5 months the offence was still good.

So is pete walker staying? I mean the starting era is through the roof, and yet motolla get fired??

This is why our franchise is going nowhere

chad is a pretty good looking man. I imagine he slept with somebody's wife.

i still don't understand why they kept putting melky in the outfield when he could barely move.
