Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Nobody even really under-performed offensively, except Melky who had a tumour on his spine. Several players even exceeded expectations with the bat. J.P, Melky, Thole, Boni, Izturus. The c/2b/lf combos really underperformed. That's a third of the team. Is it Mottola's fault??? I have no idea. But there was about 1/3 of the team that just crashed... and brought the offense down with it.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I'm giving that one the injury card. Maybe it was and if so not his fault. Boni's play was just horrible. If JPs play was due to injury then I have no clue why Mottola was fired. I'm not surprised. But I would of expected it to be in the context of Pete Walker also getting fired. Despite my rantings I still give AA a little credit and have to file this in the "there are things we don't know" category.
DwightDM Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Speechless as well. Even Gose was starting to hit a little bit the more he was up here. Seriously its time to fire this f***ing clown steering the ship.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Why the f*** would Mottola be fired? I know! Must be stuff we don't know about
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 WTF Mottola fired.........f*** you #ArencibiaLine and #IzturisLine2.0 AA is pissed Mottola was preaching to use the whole field. #Pulldatball#JPALINE

No way, that was his true talent put in action.....No tool = no skill
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 The f***ing fat greek justifying his salary. AA "I need to wipe my ass with someone, someone should be fired.....A sheep must be sacrificed for the good of the whole FO" I have no idea if Mottola was a good hitting coach or not. I certainly saw no huge problems. He seemed well respected and people have good things to say about him. I would speculate there is more to the story then we know. Perhaps Murphy and Mottola had conflict and it got out of hand... that would be my speculation. Out of "respect" to Murphy, Beeston had Mottola fired, to prevent problems for the next hitting coach AA negotiated Murphy's retirement. After all that happened why just Murphy and Mottola and not Pete Walker?? (I don't believe Murphy "retired" Jays let these guys get a "respecttul" exit).
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Nobody even really under-performed offensively, except Melky who had a tumour on his spinet And JP A lot of guys had slow starts, but Rasmus, Reyes, Edwin, Lind, Davis, DeRosa had good years. Bautista and Lawrie were just so so but there's always going to be guys with off years.

I think we need a veteran coach for this job. There must be somebody available who's good.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I'm just happy to see Murphy gone.

I would speculate there is more to the story then we know Yep. Has to be.

Kudos to Melky for trying to play through that injury but he was clearly hobbled out there and just plain bad.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I wish we hadn't lost Butterfield Losing him may have actually been the biggest loss in the Farrell fiasco

ace3113 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Why the f*** would Mottola be fired? Exactly. He was our best coach this year IMO. Good progress from Rasmus, Lawrie, Lind, and continued success from Bautista, Encarnacion, and Reyes. What the hell is AA doing?
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I bet you Cito and Beest had something to do with this. You know those 2 love the ole rip it and grip it approach. Mottola was obviously preaching other things to certain hitters and they didn't like it.
The_DH Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 But what about Murph? You think that was a real retirement?

With the exception of Melky, those are all thoroughly s***** hitters. WTF did you expect them to do?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Cito Gaston needs to leave the building This reminds me of what happened to Larry Hisle. I believe he actually kept his job because after news leaked he was fired there was an uproar.... http://articles.latimes.com/1993-10-24/sports/sp-49286_1_blue-jay
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 This organization is a f***ing clown show. It doesn't matter how many overpaid contracts AA hands out in free agency, this team will always suck under Rogers ownership.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Best bet here is that Mottola just didn't fit in with the old boys clique. Maybe he started critically thinking a bit too much about hitting. Maybe he started describing hitting success in terms of weighted on base average instead of arbitrary 20-80 scale numbers. He made the mistake of trying to explain BABIP to Anthopoulos. He started telling guys like Lawrie and Rasmus to maybe be less aggressive at the plate, if they felt comfortable reeling it back a bit. But the last straw was when they found a copy of The Book and a tablet PC in his locker. That was just too much.

Mottola is a true Card and the jays want a Ribeyes guy OBP (Mottola) Vs AVG (FO)

BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Watch Cito come out of retirement to coach...He'll turn those wussy oppo hits from Lawrie in to homeruns for sure!
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I think Mark DeRosa would make a great hitting coach!!!
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I think Mark DeRosa would make a great hitting coach!!! Are you being serious? I actually wouldn't mind it that much if was. Atleast he understands the benefits of going the other way...

Atleast he understands the benefits of going the other way... Promoting DeRosa into pseudo-retirement would probably be a greater net benefit to the 2014 Blue Jays than hiring any single specific free agent hitting coach out there.
