Murphy has retired, not fired. @DannyKnoblerCBS: Blue Jays announce they've fired hitting coach Chad Mottola and 1B coach Dwayne Murphy.

Bench Coach DEMARLO HALE, Pitching Coach PETE WALKER, 3B Coach LUIS RIVERA and Bullpen Coach PAT HENTGEN will all remain in current roles.

Mottola got fired? WTF? I thought he was doing well with players like Rasmus, Lind and making progress with Lawrie. He also is responsible for helping EE become a more selective hitter.

f*** you AA.

They had to blame someone, f*** logic, they probably picked the guy they were gonna fire through a game of eenie-meenie-minnie-mo.

Mottola was just the unlucky guy. Even though it makes no sense.

This is f***ing ********. If JPA is back next year, I'm personally calling for AA'S head.

Why the f*** would Mottola be fired?

Why indeed, he seemed to help Rasmus and Lawrie quite a bit. The building blocks of the lineup all did their jobs, it was only the fringe talents that failed this year. Moreover, our offence clearly wasn't the issue. Why the f*** wasn't Walker let go?

WTF

Mottola fired.........f*** you #ArencibiaLine and #IzturisLine2.0

The Jays scored the 9th most runs in the mlb and that was with a AAA team the last 5 weeks....they would have probably been 5th or 6th if the big guns played all year. The Jays defense was bad and the pitching was worse and the coaches responsible for these areas are staying? You can't help a player that refuses to listen...arencibia was terrible...no one could help him...how is a hitting coach going to help a player who swings at more pitches outside the strike zone than any player in the mlb....

AA should be the next to go.

Starting pitching and lack of depth cost us the season, so fire the hitting coach.

Lind, Rasmus and Sierra all surpassed expectations this year, while our three star hitters all did exactly what was expected. I really can't understand who in our lineup AA thinks will flourish under a new HC... Arencibia? Izturis? Gose? If you don't have a major league hit tool, you don't.

JPA will be the new hitting coach because he's "good" in the community and does "charity work"

The Toronto Blue Jays were 8th out of 14 teams in the American league in terms of runs scored.

One national league team (Cards I believe) beat them.

If they hit their pitchers instead of Lind/EE they would not beat several of the national league teams they did beat.

The f***ing fat greek justifying his salary. AA "I need to wipe my ass with someone, someone should be fired.....A sheep must be sacrificed for the good of the whole FO"

Arencibia??

I'm giving that one the injury card. Maybe it was and if so not his fault. Boni's play was just horrible.

I don't see it as black and white. In my humble opinion people (fans and front office) need to stop thinking in terms of "have" or "do not have" tools. It is shades of gray.

Is .196 .227 .350 or whatever the best J.P. can do?? Obviously not.

I don't know the details... but maybe the star hitters will always do good no matter who the hitting coach is. The hitting coaches job is to get the guy who is a poor hitter a little better. Get JP up to .240 with a .290 on base average. Get Lawrie to improve instead of regressing every year. Get Boni's on base percentage over .300 at least. Get Thole hitting a bit.

Rasmus did OK... but k/bb wasn;t good.
