Nah. Some team will give him a chance because his teams have won 90+ games the last 4 seasons. They won't take into account that he had very good teams assembled for him, they'll just look at his winning percentage for those years and get a boner. The Rangers have to get rid of him though. They need to blame someone for the meltdowns the past couple of years and who is the easiest and cheapest to blame? The manager. You can't really fire all the players.

I could see him getting a bench coach job. As of right now I don't really see any managerial openings that he would fit into. I doubt the Cubs would want a coke-head in charge their young players, and I don't think the Yankees would touch him with a 10 foot pole. Of course I'm sure a couple more spots will open up, but I doubt he'll get consideration. Although with a bench/field coach I do think he has a lot to offer. He has 5 or 6 years of experience being at the helm and he was not completely god awful at it and he does seem to connect well with players. Take some of decision making away from him and he might be very a very efficient staff member for some team.

I'm not even a guy who thinks the manager makes a big difference over 162 games. But I honestly think that if Maddon, Leyland or LaRussa was managing the Rangers the last 5 years they'd have won a World Series during that time.

BTW, how come everyone seems so certain that Girardi is done with the Yankees??

If the Yankees are really dead set on getting under the luxury tax threshold this year will be a painful year for them. They don't really have any young talent that is ready to come up and fill holes so they will have to take fliers on older, injury prone, extremely one dimensional, or non-tendered players (eg Sizemore, Reyonlds, Young, etc). Would Girardi want to stick around to manage a team that might be worse than what they had this year or does he jump ship to his hometown team that has a young core in place? I just don't think he sticks around, but that's just my thinking.

Hell I would do that even if it was to make Girardi our catcher. I also think it would be fun to sign Zaun and let him catch half the games and JP catch the other half and see who does better.
