Jays Verified Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 But pitching is also important, and the Angels are sorely lacking in pitching. This is reflected in their 24th-ranked pitching WAR - much worse than the Braves or Reds. And that's not Trout's fault. You just made a good case for Trout to win MVP. Their offence was good because he was a part of it but his team sucked because of something completely out of his control (pitching)

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 And if I read the Fangraphs stat right, according to "WAR" the Angels were a better team then the Braves and the Reds. Excellent deduction, Sherlock

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Heading to the other league. Should/could Kershwaw win MVP over McCutchen? Kershaw has 8.3 RA9-WAR while McCutchen has 7.9 WAR. McCutchen is the best positional player in the league and helped make the Pirates relevant again after so many years. Zero chance he doesnt get it
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 McCutchen is the best positional player in the league and helped make the Pirates relevant again after so many years. Zero chance he doesnt get it You pretty much only see pitchers get it when one has an insane year AND there's no clear cut positional player who stands out above every body. But McCutheon is doing the latter. No disrespect to Kershaw - he gets the Cy, McCutheon is MVP.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Cutchen - Miggy My Vote: Cutchen, Trout
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Verlander? I'd say that was one of those years where there were really good position players with excellent years (Bautista, Cabrera, Ellsbury) but maybe not a CLEAR front runner among them? Not sure what the voters thought exactly but maybe those guys "split the vote"
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 A lot of the sheep believe that WAR should be sole determinant of who wins the MVP When did people in the minority who are questioning the majority opinion and challenging a century of traditionalist thought process considered sheep? The irony is incredible.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 We all know he WILL win, the point is that he shouldn't. Nothing is proved by him winning. It proves that the baseball writers: A) Penalize good players for being on bad teams Think their own analysis of players based on basic stats is better than WAR

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 This is kinda where the awards are gray. I would vote Harvey for Cy Young, but would have Kershaw 3rd or 4th in MVP voting with Harvey off the map. Best Pitcher was Harvey, Most Valuable Pitcher was Kershaw. This confuses me

This vagueness only applies to pitchers though. It means the same thing for hitters really (with the exception of like Trout being injured half the season where he'd be the best but not most valuable). Yeah I see where you're coming from here.
