GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 One thing I'm confident in though is that if Goins was our catcher instead of JPA, we'd be better off. The saddest part is that this is probably 100% true lol

KSaw Verified Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Gose should replace Rajai on the bench. The end.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Nice to see a plan in that AB. Another year of seasoning could see him start in CF come 2015,with Rasmus in left.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 *Takes Gose out of the oven* Smells pretty good, but I think it needs a bit more! *Adds more mustard glaze, then places Gose back in oven. Sets dial to "full MLB season as 4th OF / part time player".
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Just stick the man in CF if not just for the entertainment value of having an exciting player to watch everyday instead of what we saw during this mess of a season.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 If we are going to field Gose in center , Goins at 2nd and Melky at DH we might as well blow the whole frigging team up and trade EE ,Bautista ,Dickless, Rasmus ,Eat money on Reyes Buehrle ,Lind and dump them and play for the #1 frigging pick . That is one thing we could actually win.

Several of these positions need to be upgraded into reliable regulars or productive platoons: C 2B LF DH Jose Reyes' obligatory ~70 game replacement SS And that's to say nothing about the pitching, which is the biggest issue obviously. If AA can't make significant upgrades at several of those positions, then he might as well admit failure and commit Seppuku

Ruiz ( I doubt McCann could be paid to come here ) is the biggest priority . I hate having Gose as our 4th OF cause he needs to play every day to see IF he can hit . I hate to admit it but I would like Davis back .
flafson Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Davis is probably looking for a multi year deal, he's not getting any younger.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Davis is probably looking for a multi year deal, he's not getting any younger. Agree Someone will give him 2-3 years. We shouldn't. Gose is the new (and cheaper) Davis but with better defense
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Gose will play nearly every day as a 4th out fielder on this tem due to the inevitable injuries to Bautista and melky. Even Rasmus will miss time. I bet Gose plays 120+ games as the 4th outfielder.

Not just for injuries, but for pitcher matchups and sometimes just days off even if your regulars are healthy. It's a more important position on the team than some would think.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 You're not a fan of trading those players? Either we field a team that can win or go full rebuild . I would wait till the trade deadline then if we aren't in first trade the works Makes absolutely no sense to just trade one or two . Gut the frigging thing and look to get some # 1 picks . The question is would you let AA,s team do the gut job and the rebuild ?
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Half-measures are his franchise's trademark. How else can you expect to finish middle of the pack every year? I was all for gutting this thing months ago. I just know that it's not going to happen, for the fact that it would make for horrendous PR with the horde of casuals they succeeded in reeling in this past offseason. Baseball decisions take a back seat to PR with this team, unfortunately, so get ready for the same team plus a past-it Halladay next year.
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Bump. Great night for Gose
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Maybe Gose does have a decent bat. I really think he can start the season as our CF. put Rasmus in left, just get rid of Melky. He's still got work to do with the bat obviously, but I really think he can get better with some coaching. Who knows, but I'll stay optimistic.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Gose is a player that it's reasonable to stay optimistic on haha How is he only in his age 22 season? Feels like he's been around forever
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Gose may be capable of starting, but I still want to keep Melky. Gose is a nice contingency if Melky doesn't work out but best case scenario is still a bounce back from the Melk man.
DH12 Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Strong accurate arm, blazing speed and he is proving he can hit. He showcased all of that tonight.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 The difference is Gose is an excellent defender, has an amazing arm and great speed. But he also can't hit at all. His defense won't get any better, and while he is still young his hitting doesn't look very promising. Not a guy you can run out there everyday. Hopefully he's a useful 4th OFer at some point, I like Rajai better but for the price difference may as well just use Gose and spend that money on pitching/catcher/2B.
DH12 Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Unless Colby is moving to LF. I think Gose should start the season at Buffalo next year. I would also like to see them bring back Davis. People seem to think hes going to get paid. I think he is a valuable bench player that we will sorely miss if he leaves. Gose may be younger and a better defender. But Davis hits lefties and steals bases. 2 things we don't do very well. Gose is fast but hes not on the base stealing level of Davis. I think Davis and Gose can be on the same roster. Gose in Center, Rasmus in Left. Sign Choo to play RF, and move Bautista to 1B. Have Davis play LF agianst Lefties and Rasmus in CF with Gose on bench. Gose is too good to be on the bench

Tuco Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 IMO it would be Jose 3b, Eddy 1B, Lawrie 2B in that scenario. Theres no chance Bautista will ever play 3rd base again in any scenario. His body would hold up about 10 games at that position.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 And there's not a good platoon option either. Rasmus and Gose both hit left Bautista plays every day when healthy Melky is truly a pure switch hitter - his career numbers are identical hitting right and left
