I'm pretty sure he's going to be a bust....and this is from a Bucs fan.

Nope we just got to keep him fully stocked with Crab Legs and Women and we should be good.

So I've mentioned before I'm a Bills fan, and tonight as a result of that I have literally stopped doing everything to follow this guys live updates of Rex eating dinner with La'el Collins (the 1st round OL that went undrafted because of the murder investigation involving his ex-girlfriend), and I'm mildly concerned with what my life has come to...

You guys support Dez Bryant's BS?

Meh, its a dick move by a player who is a complete asshat, but the NFL is a different animal in pro sports, such short careers and very few guaranteed contracts, guys need to use their leverage to maximize their earnings when they have it, cause it can all be gone with one freak injury.

Never be a better time for Dez to cash in than right now, can't blame him at all.

He has never complained about a contract before. You can't blame him at all here. Arguably the best at his position, is asking for top dollar that bad?

Plus he is one of the major cogs of the team and his cheap contract has allowed them to add elsewhere throughout his time with the team (which has had him severely underpaid)

Top dollar would be Calvin Johnson money, and no WR is worth that except maybe prime Randy Moss. WR might be the most overrated position in sports besides the closer.

Calvin Johnson also got paid when the Cap was 121M and it's now 143M. Prices escalate over time. The real comparison is % of the cap, if Calvin was to get a new contract this year it would be for a higher amount than when he was paid

Calvin Johnson was also better and I still didn't think it was worth it. Giving a Calvin Johnson contract to Dez now is still ridiculous even though the cap is higher.

That's just your opinion then. Saying WRs are overrated frankly isn't accurate. Take a look at Tom Brady's performance when he has had an elite WR/TE (Moss or Gronk), when he has Gronk he is a top QB, without him he's middle of the pack.

I mentioned Moss myself, Dez is not the best WR ever at his best. And Brady turning it around last season wasn't only Gronk, there were other factors, most notably the performance of the o-line.

There's no reason to give him a QB contract especially when there's the franchise tag. I doubt Dez is willing to sit out an entire year.

Your reasons for why wide receivers are that important are vague as well. I just don't believe you should give a mammoth contract to anyone other than the QB. Better to use that money to fill 4-5 spots imo.

That's fair. There is proof that elite WRs are vital to an offense though (attaching something about Brady). Having a #1 WR is very important in the pass happy league we have today, unless you build a team like the Seahawks, which is very rare and takes a fair bit of luck (stumbling into a franchise QB in the 3rd round).

Cowboys offense will take a significant hit if Dez sits out multiple games.

I mean it's not just the seahawks who have won without a #1 WR. I think the last superbowl winner with a #1 before NE last year (if you count Gronk as a WR), was Indy in 07?

I would say the Saints and Jimmy Graham would count, Packers with Jennings and Nelson and Pats with Gronk.

The most recent being the Packers in 2011 but that sample is weird because it had flukey winners, Giants and the Ravens. Where their QBs played far above their heads

Saints didn't have Graham when they won it. A good WR touches the ball on average 5-6 times a game. I know they also draw double teams, but is that enough to justify giving one a QB contract? It's just much more efficient to spread the money out in a sport that has so many positions that are just as important.

If he wants a lot of money that's ok but if he wants a franchise QB contract then I'd probably see what kind of big return I could get for him in a trade.

WR are so overrated. Bills could've dealt Robert Woods for McCoy and chose Kiko.

I undersstand the point but QB contracts are significantly more. Jay Cutlers deal is bigger than what these guys are asking for

Theres no argument that JJ Watt doesn't deserve top money. I'd agree mostly with not giving it to a WR though.

Isn't he asking for the Calvin Johnson contract? The CJ contract is over 100 million and had almost the same guaranteed money as Cutler.

Yeah JJ Watt is the rare player not a QB like Lawrence Taylor that's probably worth that kind of money. Dez is elite but I don't think he's generational.

Apparently not. As I said, you don't really know what the asking prices are. 5/70 is very reasonable for a player with his impact, but I think Denver messed up paying Demariyus the same amount. Dez is noticeably better

He was roughly in a three way tie with Jordy Nelson and Odell for 2nd overall behind Antonio Brown, just a bit ahead of Demariyus, by PFF

Odell didn't play as many snaps so over a full season it's really Odell, Brown, Dez, Nelson, Demariyus
