What does this have to do with anything? At least Rasmus and EE are valuable with the bat

Why don't you act like someone who mirrors a person with a little bit of baseball knowledge. Give the guy some more time and he'll probably prove to have a bat equal to Kawasaki's,but with more power. Combine this with the defense he brings and you have a decent starting second baseman. Obviously an upgrade should still be sought after, but AA has other SP issues to address.

What kind of defence is this? Are we now supposed to applaud grounders? The dude should be lining balls and getting them in the air

Lol.. Shut up.

Does anyone know what the % is of groundballs hit to outs?

He has 20 groundouts on 24 groundballs. If you're talking about outs in general, he's made 41 outs on 48 at bats. 20 of the 48 outs are ground outs, so ~41.67% of his outs are grounders

A manager can be a lot more creative with a player who has a higher GB % versus a FB %.

True dat and Edwin should be hitting hr's and driving people in same for rasmus! And neither should be striking out as much! More is expected of them ! Stop giving them a hall pass and then crucify the other! Easter reference there! Lol ....they all have sinned against us! And made me swear ! Lol

I find this ironic coming from you. Also when a team is in playoff contention, they don't hand dudes a position and give them a month to try out a position. He did s*** in spring training and he's doing s*** now. Kawazaki (here and AAA) and Diaz are outplaying him both contact wise and approaches at the plate. You want him to prove himself? That's what the minors are for.

Lol.. Shut up.

If you mean the average babip on ground balls excluding bunts it was .226 in 2012. Including bunts .230

Right now Gojns babip on grounders is .174 in 23 AB.

With 1 more single in his current 23 AB he'd be at .217. If you really want to go strictly by the numbers, he's been 1 hit "unlucky" on ground balls.

His minor league track record is bad too, if anything Diaz should be playing more

No truth this is. And no s*** sherlock he'll get better, it's hard going more downhill than he is right now

No truth on Goins being the superior defender versus Kawasaki? WTF have you been watching?

Have you been to the GDTs? We're not giving them passes. Edwin is still getting on base and both of the players mentioned, who would you want them to take their place? Our problem with Goins is that Diaz and Kawazaki are outplaying him, but who's a 1B that's outplaying Edwin? Lind? He's our DH and he's DL'd. What about Rasmus? Gose? he's not fairing all too well (great approach but sky high BABIP) either. Both players have proven to be good in the past, Goins still hasn't proven he can hit great in the minors let alone in the majors.

Superior =/= better than. Kawazaki's a pretty good defender too

If Goins' numbers are still sitting in the Mendoza atmosphere at the end of may, then a Kawasaki call up can be warranted. Defensively,Kawasaki is outmatched badly, that's why he was sent down. Goins' offensive numbers mathematically speaking should improve given more playing time. His BABIP numbers have to start normalizing,no?

true...but at this point even with his normalized BABIP (.280) he'd be hitting .209. Still not good.

Next person to report a post on this thread which is not beyond this thread is seriously getting banned (not kidding here, you can't be fighting back and forth on this and then suddenly say that something minor is an infraction)

I mean (say) groundballs converted to outs... So in 2013, ______ number of groundballs were hit, and _______ number of groundballs were turned into outs by the defense

Let me copy paste template with findings:

So in 2013, 51 number of groundballs were hit, and 36 number of groundballs were turned into outs by the defense (~70.59%)

So in 2014, 24 number of groundballs were hit, and 20 number of groundballs were turned into outs by the defense (~83.33%)

I don't have 2013 numbers right in front of me here but rally it doesn't fluctuate that much from year to year. So if babip on grounders, including bunts is .230, that means 77% of grounders, all across baseball are converted to outs.

I might get s*** on for this but...............

If Arizona continues to play badly, what about A.Hill?

He's not playing well right now, but if he came cheap might boost the offence a bit. Maybe bring Cody Ross along too to platoon at DH. This is all of course if we can stay in the hunt.

Don't care for Ross, but if he wanted to play here and our coaching is better with Seitzer, I see no reason not to bring back Hill if the cost is reasonable. I feel like it won't be, though.

All of MLB, I meant.

So in 2013, 58,358 number of groundballs were hit, and 44,369 number of groundballs were turned into outs by the defense (~76.02%)

So in 2014, 6,730 number of groundballs were hit, and 5,125 number of groundballs were turned into outs by the defense (~76.15%)

First off I never said replace them ! I think you all are overreacting ! I never said replace any of them ! They are what we have so I cheer for them to be successful and for the team! Trust me aa or Rogers will not make a change or a trade because the hive , the fans or you want them too! No use worrying about that we can not control ! Sit back, pour a Rum enjoy the game and let them play! :)

Which would be a .240 BABIP and .239 BABIP. I think.

I'm not saying that you said that! I'm saying that's the main argument with goins.

SEE THIS IS WHAT OFF DAYS DOES TO US, WE NEED GAMES :P

They're actually .239x and .2385 but I rounded lol

Did you use significant digits? LOL

Edit: You didn't use it on the second one, it should be rounded down to .238! SHAME ON YOU GD

This thread is mystifying

I dunno, I used to the type of fan who just blindly cheered for every player because, like bounceyballs said, they were my team and that's what you do.

But after being exposed to Sabr and understanding what it's about and how much deeper it goes into a players value and contributions to the team's success, it's hard to be excited about a player like Goins. A purely one-dimensional defense only player is valuable even with league average offensive contributions, but Goins is nowhere near league average and really hasn't shown anything to make me believe there a whole lot more there in his bat. He's a guy that should be coming in late and close ball games for defense upgrades, or just to give a guy the occasional day off and that's about it.
