Er, nothing wrong with that. He's a fan of the team above Goins. It's very justifiable.

I was labeled a hypocrite for wanting Happ to fail, so.......

No you're a hypocrite for wanting Happ to fail while also criticizing those who want Goins to fail. You either think it's right to root against your team's players or you don't. Nothing hypocritical if you're consistant.

No, silly. See, proper fandom rests not on rooting for someone to fail or not. But on other options. You see, you can root for someone to fail if you think there's a better alternative. But you can't root for someone to fail if you don't think there's a better alternative. And this is true, even if you believe that the person you're hoping will fail is completely worthless, and that a monkey could replace him and be as good. And not a trained monkey ... just any random monkey you might find. See? It's simple!

I'm not arguing the merits of rooting against a player. I'm not a big fan of it myself but I understand and respect the reasoning. What I'm saying (for the milionth time) is that Gruber has no business getting angry at people for rooting against Goins when he uses essentially the same logic for rooting against Happ.

I don't think you understood my post. I was mocking gruber's hypocrisy.

You got me. I guess I didn't see the sarcasm because I was expecting a dead serious reply along the same lines.

When speaking in terms of better internal options, then it is justifiable to root against a player. You expect AA to run out and find an upgrade externally anytime soon? What so hard to understand?

Yes in theory you are correct, but i just want our team to put forth the best talent it has available.

Holy f***.

What's hard to understand is don't be a hypocrite. I'm not saying you have to agree with the people rooting against Goins just don't condemn them for it. It's a perfectly defensible position and it's one that's not unlike your position about Happ so when you condemn it, you're just being a hypcryte. Hate Happ and root for Goins. That's fine. You don't have to justify that. It's perfectly defensible Just don't lose your s*** when someone roots against Goins because that's also defensible. Capiche?

Goins is not the best talent available to play 2B

Don't... Just don't... Even Gruber himself must be tired of him getting mad over this.

I don't have a problem if people are rooting against Goins, because i know that they would love AA to go out and get an upgrade. It's when people are throwing out projected stats as a certainty is what makes me sick. As of now, do you agree or disagree that Goins is our best overall option at 2B?

Man, talk about hitting the nail on the head.

I already had this discussion with you in a GDT but you turned it into hurling insults and cursing at me

Lol.. You are a funny squirrel.

For me it's not wishing for Happ to fail, it's wishing the FO would realize he's already a failure and act accordingly.

The problem with Happ is the cost . With obvious lack of money it is hard to swallow what we are paying him . I have no problem having him on the team if we had even an extra 25 mil to spend . He has options , Not a bad guy to have in AAA but we have too many holes and no money to fill them .

As for Goins , Look at it this way , he is the only position player we can afford to lose to injury for any length of time LOL

Happ makes about 1/26 of the teams payroll as is. He is hardly the problem.

I'll clarify , Part of the problem . I know you disagree Chappy but I was replying to the ones who were suggesting he should be gone .

Okay, gotcha. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I have no problem with Happ on this team for what he costs.

I know Happ could likely provide equal or surplus value on his dollars, but this team needs better than the minimal surplus that Happ might provide in the 4/5 spot.

if he can stop walking 4.5 batters per 9 he might be useful. Only 1 season since 2010 has his bb/9 been under 4.37.

The concerns are valid, but there are plenty of larger concerns on this roster. I think people unfairly pick on Happ because we have other comparable options, but that depth is going to play a huge role this season. We need guys like Happ, the bigger problem is that we are relying on a guy like Morrow to be one of the leaders of this rotation and that is a huge gamble. Plus we have no legitimate #4 SP right now that we can count on to eat innings. Santana could change things a bit, but who knows what happens there. My bet is he ends up on another team anyways.

If Happ is comparable to the rest of our pitching depth and if we have to get rid of one of Rogers/Mcgowan/Redmond to keep him then doesn't he become essentially worthless?

Is Roger out of options too? Sheesh...

I'm making a point that he seems to be making improvements. I didn't say he was the next Trout but i think/hope he can improve enough to be worth while.

DJBluRay is absolutely on point in this case.

"If AA had a skull in his dome..."

Man... I wish I had a skull in my dome.... sounds cool!

2 at bats? I'm sure there were a couple of lifetime scrubs who hit a homer off Maddux or Pedro at some point.

2? Most of his at bats so far has been a huge improvement.

I'm just pointing to the fact his work is paying off and there are some results.
