GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Let's give him a full season before we comment on his numbers. So it was SSS for his bat, but not SSS for his glove, when batting stats stabilize more quickly? Jesus christ. Also, how about those full seasons in the minors where he couldn't hit as an over-ager? But coming from the guy who thinks Colby Rasmus isn't an every day player, I'm not surprised.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Good thing the all-knowing King has spoken. No need to even watch the games with this soothsayer in the building. Yes we should all preface every single statement with "in my opinion" to avoid being mistaken for a precog. However, while we're criticising King, can someone do something about that god awful avatar!? I'm tired of looking at Mr. SelfShot McMopTop thirty f***ing times a day.

Easy solution: Put him on your ignore list. Your life will be so much better. Women will want you. Men will want to be you. You will be rich, talented and famous. All from putting King on your IL.

More like a hundred and thirty.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I really can't wait for this experiment to be over. Ah, but then you'll still get to enjoy the Moises Sierra experiment. (See Fatcow post in the spring training thread)

When did i say Rasmus isn't an every day player? About Goins, obviously if he was any better in the minors he wouldn't be passed on by so many and obviously that's why the odds are not in his favor, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Wait, I might have gotten it mixed up with another user. Probably. Doesn't matter, not the gist of my point. "It's not impossible" is not logic that should be used when deciding on who to distribute your precious 600 PA to.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 People should love this quote (re Goins)! “I told Alex and Gib, there’s more in this kid’s tank, I wouldn’t be quick to pull the trigger on a second baseman,” recalls Seitzer. “With the way he plays defence and the runs he saves with his glove, he’s going to be able to contribute with the bat, I believe.” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/goins-gives-jays-optimism-at-second-base/

I'm sure the conversation inside the office is a lot different than then one that gets told to the media.

Meanwhile AA is making daily phone calls for 2B trades.

Not only for the press, but the last thing you want is a coach saying one of his players is crap. I think Gibbons threw JPA under the bus earlier in the off season and I think he was wrong to do that, just play diplomat and say the right things, no need to hurt your team's bargaining position.

Yeah baseball is such a game of confidence. Pump Goins up. I'm genuinely curious to see how well he can do.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 ftfy Well, whichever. I was all for a trade to improve 2B. Now that we've pretty much accepted that we're punting this season, however, I'm legitimately curious to see what he can do with full playing time.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Goins aside, it'll be interesting to see what Seitzer can do with Gose and if Lawrie's improved 2nd half performance carries over into this year. Given that Lawrie had finally sought out help from DeRosa, EE and Mottola, if he were to struggle early, there could be some second-guessing of AA for firing Mottola. We also know that he was with the Royals at the same time Cabrera was there and I read a quote from him this week saying how he saw something right away in Cabrera's swing that he would address. If Cabrera can hit like he did with the Royals, that's a nice plus. We'll see what happens.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 This whole season is going to be a hit or a miss. If the Raptors can do it, surely the Blue Jays can be... better than last season

I found it interesting that he's dramatically changed his swing already shortening it considerably. Change can be good or bad, but at least they're trying something different.

It's like they kept him around just for his defense and ignored everything else, nobody bothered to develop him which makes some sense knowing the club.

Wouldn't he have worked with Mottola at some point? I mean SOMEONE was coaching him at each level. How well? Beats me.
