This offseason is terrifying. We have a desperate GM with no expendable major league pieces, only 3-4 prospect with any real value, and a demonstrated inability to find wins efficiently on the market. Obviously Morrow, Hutch, and Sanchez for Phillips would be egregious, but this is exactly the type of deal(s) I'm expecting to go down.

I don't really see that happening AA seemed fine with having Goins on the roster. Which is probably a problem, but anyways i doubt he would overpay for 2nd base and there's a lot of catchers on the open market so he won't have to. The only thing we got to worry about is if he goes for that 1-2 type starter then we could get f***ed over.

I'm more expecting him to sign Bartolo Colon for 3 years 35 million because ERA.

JPA Dingers > Bart ERA

Extend JPA ASAP

Frank Thomas, pitching version.

Thomas was actually pretty decent though and would benefit from RC. I think Colon would give up 40 dingers in a full season at RC.

That was one of the few huge errors ffrom the Ricciardi era. Didn't he then go on to kick ass for Oakland?

109 wRC+, 6.7% HR/FB.

.340 wOBA. Not as good as I remember but definitely not bad. That was so weird.

Blue Jays DH production that year: 83 wRC+. I wonder how much a bat like Thomas' could have helped. Turn that 83 into 120, and we could be looking at more than 86 wins.

We had -0.4 fWAR out of LF that year. Signing Bonds and keeping Thomas would have probably gotten us to the playoffs.

Jose Bautista that year: 58 wRC+

I love how you guys ripped me for hating that Phillips trade idea, and now all these renowned posters start trashing it too and you guys go quiet.

It's cute that you think that renowned posters merely appearing will make me bow down and admit the error of my ways and repent my sins or whatever s*** you're on

Because I have no issue with one of them nor do I take issue with someone who merely disagrees with my opinion, they're far smarter than me and have their own opinions to counter mine and I accept that.

It's just people who talk out of their ass that bug me

You and your little buddy King were all over me saying I was overvaluing our pitchers and undervaluing Phillips and you were supporting that trade that I was saying was ridiculous. Then NJH and BTS say its a terrible deal and all of a sudden you don't like it anymore

Sorry, but you missed this time. I know you want to attack me so everyone thinks your "cool", but sometimes that blinds you and you don't realize how dumb you sound. Hopefully no one important realizes that you screwed up.

You have serious reading comprehension issues.

I've never seen someone with such a huge false sense of superiority. What do you even mean reading comprehension? It's painfully simple. You liked the trade before NJH and BTS didn't.

renowned posters... NJH

I'm renowned? As in, widely acclaimed and honuored; celebrated; famous?

I had no idea you thought so highly of me!!!

As an aside, I don't really appreciate being lumped in with that goober BTS.

Okay I'll make this real simple.

>I would try not to give up both Sanchez and Hutch in the same deal and try and swap one of them out for a difference piece

>If I absolutely couldn't and there was no way it would go through any other way I would probably do it but I wouldn't be like "OMG YAYZ BEST TRADE EVER" I'd call it nearly even

>My reasoning is that I personally don't believe Morrow will be healthy enough to provide value, Sanchez is walking 4+ guys in a-ball and has dealt with some injuries which gives me minor pause, and Hutch is coming off an arm injury and imo Phillips is worth it

>It would probably provide a 5 win swing at 2B

>Le maymay arrows

Is that clear enough? If NJH or BTS or someone who didn't like the deal would like to counter my argument, go for it, we'll argue away and present our cases and all that merry ********. But it's asshats like you who spew ******** that annoy the hell out of me.

It's pretty bad. Like the guy said, it would be Dickey trade bad.

Morrow himself, IMO, should be worth nearly as much as Phillips. Phillips is owed 49 mill for his age 33-36 seasons, and he just had a very mediocre year. Barely better than an average 2B. He doesn't exactly have old man skills. An Orlando Hudson-esque precipitous fall off to suckitude isn't out of the question.

Morrow + a B prospect would be a fair swap in my books, but I wouldn't even do that because I hate Phillips.

You don't send off an affordable young upside arm like Morrow + a good, cheap, controllable young arm like Hutch + a blue chip talent with massive upside like Sanch for one old, expensive, whiny, and mediocre player like Brandon Phillips.

You're instead of your is a spelling problem, not reading comprehension.

Reading comprehension is when you don't understand the content of the text.

Besides, did you see how many people use the word then instead of than? You should go after them too.

Go easy on Gordie, he's not used to realizing he's wrong.

I'll preface this by saying I know I said I was leaving this board, but I couldn't help myself and lurk a little bit to see if anything would change.

And wow, just wow. This thread is a classic example of all that is wrong with this board. You have some honest back and forth going on with theblujay and GD/King, theblujay making points while GD and King shitpost garbage like "lmfao" and continually make petty irrelevant insults. Suddenly, BTS and NJH (who haven't done anything wrong here, just to clarify) make their points which happen to go against GD/King. You'd think they would continue to ridicule their posts, just like they did with theblujay, right?

Oh, no. No, no, no. They pretty much ignore their points, which were very accurate imo, and continue to rip apart theblujay/Goins/everything and try to change the subject. This shows that these guys only really care about fitting in on this board. They won't disagree with someone they consider to be "important" and just hurl trash at what they believe to be is the lowest common denominator. Really sad to see.

Sorry for coming back but I couldn't help myself. Have at it guys.

I disagree that Morrow should be worth as much as Phillips, Phillips has consistently been a 3 win 2B even if he is a whiny little bitch and Morrow hasn't demonstrated an ability to stay healthy. And yeah he's affordable but honestly $8m isn't insignificant.

I think Morrow + Hutch + position prospect is probably the best case scenario deal that they would even take.

You're instead of your is a spelling problem, not reading comprehension.

Reading comprehension is when you don't understand the content of the text.

I probably wasn't clear, he didn't understand my original point, and you're was a grammatical error. Two different complaints.

I think the only way I'd let them have Hutch and Sanchez in a trade (wouldn't include Morrow) for Phillips would be if they took back some dead short term salary in return as well (can anyone say Romero?). Perhaps throw in one of our non-elite relievers too.

Oh I didn't ignore it, I just disagree with a lot of it and don't have the energy to argue it. Long story short yada yada Idek what you mean change the subject yada yada are you actually criticizing me for objecting to the notion that Goins is a 1.5+ win player yada yada I just disagreed with NJH and it's kind of f***ing hard to be important on a message board and that's the best you'll get from me.

I said almost as much. I think Phillips would be worth a bit more.

I'd almost prefer to have a guy like Morrow with big upside who hasn't demonstrated the ability to stay healthy, rather than a guy like Phillips who has recently demonstrated that he is mediocre and on the decline.

"Consistent 3 win 2B", except for, you know, his most reason season. Fully healthy and only 2.6 wins. Mehhhh.

I guess it depends on what your definition of almost/a bit is.

His most recent season certainly wasn't stellar or anything but his BABIP went down like 17 points (10 points from his career mean). I think he'll be around 3 wins for the next few years.

The best part about me getting ripped for "wanting to make that trade and going against theblujay and BTS and NJH and blah blah blah" is that I've never actually stated my opinion on whether I would do that trade or not

Ok King, but saying things like

What do you think is a more reasonable deal for Phillips?

You over value our players

doesn't make it sound that way? Go ahead, rip on "reading comprehension," but the reality is that we all know whose side YOU'RE (that's for you GD) on.
