saxrdrunk Verified Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Perhaps this has been discussed in another thread, but the Jays currently have the largest attendance increase season-over-season in baseball, 4343 more fans per game on average. We've moved up from 19th to 15th in average attendance, as well. Good news - or bad news? Does this send the message to Rogers that we're happy with what we've got and, like the Leafs, will continue to come to games despite the fact that the on-field product is brutal? Or does this tell Rogers that they should continue to invest in the team and, by doing so, the fan base will continue to grow. Thoughts? Here's a link for your reading enjoyment: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/current_attendance.shtml
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Nice to see and I think largely due to the optimism through the first half of the season. The TV numbers are more important though. If the ratings are up significantly, that means way more than increase in attendance
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 And note to Tampa Bay fans---get your butts to the games! They're barely ahead of Miami in attendance--and that's sad for a contending team. Poor numbers like this will result in their stars being traded, starting with David Price this offseason. However, their TV ratings are strong-- better hope the TV rights bubble doesn't burst!
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Many people are probably like my family and bought their tickets at the start of the season and spread them out over the summer. Wouldn't have bought many after the first few months with this result

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 And if AA, Beeston, and Gibbons don't get fired and no major changes are made to the roster, they'll have the highest attendance decrease in the MLB next year. Ratings are also already down from last year. The fans are getting disgruntled, but sadly, Rogers will only consider the bottom line and be as tonedeaf as possible.

As of July 10, Sportsnet was averaging 544,000 viewers (aged two and over) for Jays’ broadcasts. That’s nine per cent down from the 2012 average of 595,000 at this point of the season but up 10 per cent from 2011′s average of 496,000 at the same time. http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Mediocre+Blue+Jays+winning+turnstiles/8693981/story.html

Errorcebia Verified Member Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 The attendance will drop again next year. A lot of these tickets were bought in advance and people aren't going to waste them. It will take a full season of good baseball for attendance to rise again in 2015.
