Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I guess we treat our players like little babies then... Would you want to give 100% effort in your job if your employer said he was looking for someone to replace you? There's a difference between babying people and treating people with respect. It also, as I said, gives the club a chance to gauge other team's interest in the players with no repercussions.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Yep it definitely makes sense. It costs nothing in time or money to put guys through, so why not do it. Suppose the Jays are about to move Oliver but the other team is also in need of a veteran infielder. If they already had DeRosa clear, it would be much simpler than having to pass him through then, or looking to alternatives. Not to mention a key injury in the next 3 weeks could make a team really desperate for someone who has already passed through. Perhaps that would get us a "b" prospect where at the deadline there was likely nothing.
