I've never thought Gibby was the problem. In fact I think it's glaringly apparent he isn't. Without him I doubt we would be in the position we're in. there are better managers in the game but none that we can hire at this stage.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Your fired John Gibbons. Wait did u employ moises seriera? Also Brad Glenn as Linds platoon? Bye Gibby. AA to president. Beeston to commissioner of baseball, bye.

Im ready to give anyone else a shot at this point. Gibbons had his shot and couldn't make it work: Time to move on.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Phil Lind - No... No I don't think we should fire Gibbons. We have to take responsibility for this mess. We need to admit our mistakes. Sometimes upper management has to take the blame. Beeston - my consultant will be speaking on my behalf... Phil Lind - (looks at the consutant) Who the hell are you?? Moogy - (has been banned from BJMB and has free time). I'm Moogy sir. Please do not blame innocent business people. The reality is, most people who obtain an MBA have come from other disciplines. Those often include science related fields, medical and engineering. They are, in fact, typically bright, educated people who are looking to make a career step or simply branch out into a slightly expanded, but related, career path from the one they are currently in Phil Lind - hmmmm... I didn't think of that. (thinking) Phil Lind (reluctantly) - OK, go ahead and fire Gibbons... I don't know... this... what is your name again? Moogy - Moogy sir. Phil Lind - I concede Mr. Moogy did make a valid point.... I was on the fence... but it's the right thing to do. We can't blame upper management. Fire Gibbons.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Gibby can only polish a turd so much. Lack of depth...injuries to key pieces...mediocre SP staff and meltdowns by key relievers...Colby regression to 2012 etc. Unexpected surprises like Stro and Sanchez backfilled his assets somewhat. We made mistakes in the off season and at deadline being too inactive in filling holes imo when we had a real shot this year...that we blew. I can't blame Gibby for that. Bottom line as one fan I'm no huge Gibby proponent, but I think he has done a reasonable job getting what he can out of this team's capabilities and we have bigger issues in the front office and on the roster than him to address. Gibby termination is not a magic elixir and is counter productive sacrificial lamb window dressing to divert uneducated fans from the real holes we have to address.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Fire Gibbons, slash payroll for a few years, then bring him back when the payroll mysteriously jumps by $30M in one off-season. Let's keep the tradition going.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Keep him on two conditions: - the rebuilding starts this offseason (might as well clean house) - there are no clubhouse issues There's really no point otherwise
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 It is time to fire Gibbons. He obviously can not manage a team to a winning record. He should never have been hired in the first place. We fired him before and its time to fire him again. Someone needs to be held accountable for this crap on the field and he is a part of the problem. I dont think they have much of a choice now but to fire him. If you look at the other managers in the division.Farrell just won a ws,and Maddening Maddon, and Girardi still get their teams to play hard for them, and usually beat lesser opponents. The biggest thing for me is how we have competed within our division, and it has been awful. Its not all on Gibby. Some of these players need an attitude adjustment bigtime. This is why they hired Gibbons in the first place http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TOR/
championshipmoments Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 The manager is the problem. He sat down Juan fransico and Colby Rasmus on the bench who were 3rd and 4th on the team in homerun and rbis at one point or another in the season for more than half a season when they were healthy. He sits down adam lind on the bench who is capable of having a 30 homerun and 100 rbi season for half the season when he was healthy. Colby rasmus last year has an ops above.850 wih 24 homeruns 76 rbis and a good .265 batting avg.
championshipmoments Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Adam Lind last year had more than 22 homeruns with an ops above.840. Juan fransico already had more than 14 homeruns by the end of may and gibbons benched him after that for more than 80 percent of the games.

championshipmoments Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 He could have put aaron schanzes in the rotaion when he was called up instead he put him in the bullpen for a whole 2 months when everyone knows that schanzes is a starting pitcher. That is why the manager is the problem.

championshipmoments Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 do u know why he was bad? He had 14 homeruns by the end of may, he was at one time third or fourth on the team in rbis when jays were playing good baseball in may and june. After that they benched him for most of the season. He only came to pinch hit. that is why he was bad because they benched him. when he was a fulltime 1b or dh in the lineup he was playing very good baseball

Its as if he stopped watching the Jays at the end of May and started picking it up again in August and wondering why Big Juan and Rasmus was on the bench. Hope this isn't the mentality of the casual fans :\
championshipmoments Verified Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 juan fransisco was a big part of the bglue jays run at first place during may and june and after that they benched him. thats why the manager sucks and the team sank in the bottom of the ocean. 3 reasons why team sank 1) tthey didnt play fransisco on a regular basis 2) they didnt play rasmus on a regular basis 3) they didnt play lind on a regular basis All three of them are good hiters. instead they played a bunch of scrubs and minor leagers like goins and gose in their place dont give me that lefty right match ups excuse. if u want ur hitters to hit well, then a manager has to show confidence in them whether that hitter is facing a lefty or a righty. benching the hitter because he didnt hit well the last 5 games or because their is a lefty on the mound will only destroy the batters skills and confidence even more.
