Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 He's got three plus pitches that miss a lot of bats. If he controlled his walk rate a little better I think the sky is the limit as to what he could do as a starter. The key would be his endurance. He was mostly a starter in his younger years but since he resurrected his career he's only been a short man in the pen. I wonder if his training would enable him to be stretced out.

KSaw Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) He started 78 games in the minors and only converted to being a reliever after being injured. Health and staying healthy would be the concern. He was always a starter. With that said, he was a wild starter who had little success and he really only has 2 good pitches. Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Could? Maybe... Should? Probably not.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 With Cecil regressing and Janssen seemingly losing his midas touch, keep Delabar in the pen! Stroman call up with Lawrie after the AS break
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 With Cecil regressing and Janssen seemingly losing his midas touch, keep Delabar in the pen! Stroman call up with Lawrie after the AS break Cecil has had 2 poorish outings in a row, I don't know that I would call that "regression". Janssen has pitched 2 innings in July after a stellar June... I'm not ready to throw these guys to the wolves just yet. Even if Delebar were to be moved to starting, it certainly wouldn't be during the season... Also, were you suggesting Stroman be called up for the pen? If he comes up, I hope it's as a starter, the Jays pen is excellent, the rotation is where the help is needed (though, our patchwork guys have been better than the rotation locks for the most part...)
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Stroman as a starter... he isn't fully stretched out but should be good for 5, giving way to McGowan
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Stroman as a starter... he isn't fully stretched out but should be good for 5, giving way to McGowan Stroman threw 105 pitches in 7 innings in his July 7th start... Sounds pretty stretched out to me!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Stroman threw 105 pitches in 7 innings in his July 7th start... Sounds pretty stretched out to me! Sure but need to conserve the IP on his arm if he is going to pitch for the rest of the year
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Stroman pitched 57.2 IP in 2010 (Duke), 64.1 in 2011 (Duke), and 98+19.1 in 2012 (Duke + Van/NH) Last thing we need is for our #2 pitching prospect to go the way of Hutch

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Always considered stretched out to mean able to go 6 innings or more over a full MLB season I've always interpreted it to mean "able to throw 80+ pitches in an outing...

You gotta think at this point AA will almost certainly deal one of Delabar or Janssen at the deadline, if not then likely this winter. Hopefully its Janssen as it would save this team $4M and get us a solid return. It's a luxury this team can afford to part with since Santos will be back and we also have McGowan and Wagner as our primary RHP in the pen.
