bzapple Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Nope not in derby.... I thought perhaps he might've been asked and declined the offer, but judging from the Pirates announcer's reaction that was not the case lol.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Cuddyer... Yup there's a name the baseball world wants to see ...
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 So did the Blue Jays not allow Jose to play in the Derby?? Seems that way
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't know why they would do that. He's going to be there for the game anyway, he can't now go rest at home for a week. I think MLB/Cano thought it would be better to have some new guys. Jose Bautista yesterday "I'm waiting the Cano call to participate in the home run derby" Edwin "Cano invited to Jose Bautista and he will accept" Confused. Also, HR Derby is pretty taxing, nothing like playing in the AS game where you bat maybe twice.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 It's just glorified batting practice. If Bautista can't do batting practice then he should be on the DL. It's nothing like batting practice. You're swinging full might on every pitch, there's not much in the way of rest. David Ortiz: I can't do it. It wears me out. Wears me out. And you know the Home Run Derby can be taken lightly. You have to be young with a lot of energy
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You don't swing full might at everything, you swing at pitches you like.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You don't swing full might at everything, you swing at pitches you like. When you're trying to hit homeruns (plus put on a show) you don't put all your effort into the swing? Uhh okay
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 But that's Bautista's job. He swings at full effort tens of thousands of times a year. What makes the HRD different? There's no difference... it's exactly the same... that's why Ortiz is still in the HR derby... oh wait...
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 There's no difference... it's exactly the same... that's why Ortiz is still in the HR derby... oh wait... Ortiz is out because he's fat.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 When you're trying to hit homeruns (plus put on a show) you don't put all your effort into the swing? Uhh okay I assume that trying to hit a 60mph ball in your sweet spot doesn't take as much effort as hitting a 95mph fastball, but i'm not sure cause to be honest i never tried any of those. Besides, knowing Bautista, he's all about competing and that's a competition.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Ortiz is out because he's fat. Apparently he "got in shape" a couple seasons ago.... lost weight, etc. So...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Apparently he "got in shape" a couple seasons ago.... lost weight, etc. So... He is definitely less fat than he was 2-3 years ago. But he ain't exactly slim... http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0505/bos_a_redsts_600.jpg
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Pedroia needs to watch it when he high 5's Ortiz. He could get seriously injured if it was full force.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I still love the new nickname "Medium Papi"
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I still love the new nickname "Medium Papi" Ha (half chuckle)
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 They should just let Verlander participate. He wants to and is actually very proficient at hitting BP home runs.
ZaunCherry Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Never heard of this TBA guy. But if he has pop, I hope AA can work a trade before the deadline.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Never heard of this TBA guy. But if he has pop, I hope AA can work a trade before the deadline. ....Really, you never heard of Cespedes before? And I don't think Oakland would trade him, AA would have to overpay for sure.
ZaunCherry Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You've never heard of Cespedes??? Yeah I have, but I think this TBA guy is TDAs evil twin Travis B'Arnaud, As with every year, I will watch the HR Derby for 20 mins and then get tired of it. Back back back back! SHUT UP

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I believe it was a moderately clever attempt at humor. Yes, as in joking that TBA was some player's nickname.

Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 So they can't compete in the HR Derby. Rasmus and Cespedes aren't even going to the ASG. Cespedes in the derby after all.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Cespedes in the derby after all. Yep, evidently I was wrong.
