Just completely forget about a 5th starter, add an extra bp arm, and do the games by committee. Dustin can add 1 inning at a time to his starts and still be available on his throw day in between.

@Wilnerness590 @greggzaun @TheGarfoose It's time to start seriously thinking about Dustin McGowan for starting rotation. #McGowanForStarter

I would love to make McGowan our fifth starter, but if you were around during the middle of the last decade, remember how everytime we got excited about this guy, he always dissappointed us with one bloody injury after another. I won't be teased twice. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I think it's what you do as well. We are talking about trying to slip him past waivers. If we are going to lose him... might as well do it our way.... by blowing out his arm trying to make him a a starter. I say go for it.

3 innings McG, 3 innings Cecil until one of them is stretched out enough to keep going.

Doesn't really matter though I think they are going with Stroman on Sunday.

That's fine

But they should stretch him out anyway

He just embarassed Miggy and Prince, his stuff looks as filthy as ever.

It's truly incredible after all these operations and DL stints

He's lost exactly zero of his velocity... Actually looks a bit faster than I remember him before the most recent injury.

I agree with Dinger, we have been paying this guy tons of money for years just to get better from his sick leave. He owes us big time! Give him Wangs place, if he can't handle it, its time to designate him for assignment which means, "you are fired"

f*** his health, throw him into the rotation.

I agree. The man is 31 years old. Not exactly protecting Strasburg here. Give him an 80 pitch count and however far he goes with that he goes. If he still looks strong after 80, keep him in.

As a reliever yes, but as a starter he would probably be more 93-95.

What was that 94mph pitch he threw at the knees and on the dirt a couple times? It was absolutely filthy. Looked like a 2 seam with a heavy splitter break...

Yes, that second pitch to Fielder...94 mph with filthy downward movement. It moved like a change up, but at 94....

Splitter maybe?

That's the one! Looked like he was going to leave it at the knees and all of a sudden the bottom fell out. I saw it a couple more times. One of the best swing and miss pitches I've seen in a long time.

His situation makes no sense

Serious issues with diabetes. Terrible shoulder surgery. Lingering knee problems

Comes back throwing 97

WTF

It makes me think of kettlebells as physiotherapy.

For anybody who doesn't know what kettlebells are, they are like cannonballs with handles. They can be swung and manipulated in a number of ways. They gained popularity in the US in the mid-2000s and there has been a whole raft of anecdotal evidence from people saying that their use has eased long-term back problems and such. More than that, people find they can develop tremendous strength and power without necessarily building mass.

Perhaps Delabar's weighted velocity program works along the same lines. It'd be kinda ironic if Dusty needed the heavy duty overload all this time rather than the gently-softly TLC.
