anyone think they'd attempt to trade one of the current offensive players and improve the pitching? It's a horrible baseball model but it wouldn't surprise me. Edwin is probably a top 25 trade chip these days, is less popular than Bautista (for some reason, hell he's less popular than Muni, Lawrie and JPA among the casual fans).

In the end I think all the contending teams this year would be ecstatic if the Jays landed Lee. To keep it in perspective the Phillies are 9 back of the division and 8 back of the wild card, Jays are 9.5 back of division and 5.5 back of wildcard yet we think the Phillies should be selling and the Jays buying. By the weekend there could be no difference between them.

I am only concerned about missing D'Arnaud and Syndergaard.

I still have NO problem with the Miami trade. Hech??? Pffft - we got Jose F'n Reyes. Nicolino? Meh, the other two Lansing guys are almost certainly better.

D'Arnaud we might pine for thanks to JP Arencibia, and Syndergaard sounds like he's progressing beautifully and because home grown, cheap, controllable, quality starting pitching rocks the house.

Assets are assets though. Marlins turned Escobar into a 24 year 2B who is outperforming Boni. Hech's D isn't showing well in the metrics but Didi Gregorius got Trevor Bauer in trade, so no one knows what Hech's true value is if he ever truly becomes a great defensive SS. Marisnick has put himself into top 40 prospect range, and Nicolino isn't getting the K's but he's still getting weak contact and GB's. He's done little to hurt his status as a fringe top 100 guy.

Knowing AA, he'll throw money at someone in desperation and when it doesn't work, claim that fans should have never viewed this as an all in year.

You're probably overvaluing his market value. Take a look at the traditional stats GMs like to use:

2013: 6-4 4.30 ERA

2012: 11-12 3.36 ERA

2011: 7-7 4.92 ERA

2010: 7-8 4.83 ERA

Aside from his ERA in 2012, none of this says 1/2 to a traditional thinker. It looks more like a 3/4.

He's also a brand name pitcher though

And were talking about a major sellers market for pitching too

The last time Kenny Williams traded us a starter at the deadline we moved a top-5 prospect in the system (B+ according to Sickels), Jason Frasor, and ~$8 million for half a season of Edwin Jackson. You have to believe Peavy, with a year and a half remaining, holds more value than that.

There is going to be a market for this guy. I don't think its realistic to think we swoop in and still him with Pillar and Nessy.

I personally think that he has less value than Jackson. It's a year and a half of salary commitment to an oft injured pitcher and a big option with a significant buy out and he's currently injured.

And it wasn't 8 million, though I see why you refer to Teahen that way. Stewart was a preseason ranked prospect as high as B+ for some and as low as C- to others. He had very mixed reviews. I'm pretty sure that Keith Law really didn't like him at all. Saying that he was top 5 in that garbage minor league system isn't saying much at all.

I'm really basing much of my opinion on the Chicago media. They seem generally convinced that the contract mixed with the injury history is a big negative.

Why are you doing that?

RE: Peavy's option: "player option for 2015 if he 1) has 400 IP in 2013-14, including 190 IP in 2014, and 2) is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2014 season"

So in other words, the option doesn't exist. I don't see how it's possible for him to get to 400 innings in 13+14.

Just be patient fans, the Blue Jays will have an awesome starting five pitching rotation going into April 2014 as long as they don't do something stupid during the rest of this ugly boorish, loosing year, but hopefully will learn what not to do in 2014, from their hair-brain mistakes from 2013, and they can find a better and smarter YES MAN manager then Gibbons.

This forum is damn smart.

AA should come to this forum and learn how should handle a f***ing baseball team.

Dickey

Buehrle

Morrow

Happ

Rogers/Stroman/Nolin

I'm pretty underwhelmed by that.

That actually is really underwhelming. I just want this season to be over and done with, so we can start cleaning house from the top down.

What about trading some of the excess bullpen arms to get that needed SP? Peavy for Cecil and a low-level prospect wouldn't seem unfathomable if you can convince the White Sox Cecil can be flipped for a decent haul to some team that doesn't know him too well.

Chicago media, along with the Fort Worth Star Telegram near Dallas and the Miami Herald tend to have a pretty good pulse on things and are often right. And it is their team they are talking about in Chicago. Logically, I'm not out a limb very far by putting some faith in their evaluation.

Edit. Brain cramped on Dallas paper name for a sec there.

Actually you are.

They're good at reporting the news. That's it. When it comes to analyzing assets and potential deals they're not useful.

If that's the plan, our list of target teams is reduced to those run by Amaro-level idiots. So the Phillies and... uh... probably nobody else.

J P Morosi on FAN 590. Says he THINKS the team AA is "waiting 7-10 days" for is the Kansas City Royals, target is Ervin Santana.

There's literally a 1 percent chance or lower that we get Lee. It's Amaro..sure he'll trade away prospects, but not his Ace for anything less than a King's Ransom.

Why is the 7-10 day team not the Phillies?

Both make sense I guess...

It's Amaro. Common sense goes out the window with him. In a interview, he stated that he wants Utley to retire a Philly..just because. Forgot trying to add a decent B, B- prospect for him even though your team has no shot at winning that division for at least 7 years.

Jesus Christ

The good news is that the package going back just went down. Delabar gets it done, Cecil gets us Aaron Crow also

And they still wouldn't have a starter for the one-game playoff since they aren't winning the division. A move for Santana would be a huge show of faith in JJ and Dickey.

What do you guys think about bringing Doc back when he returns from shoulder surgery next season? lol

If the price is right, I'd be very much in favor of this assuming Doc was willing to go on the Delabar program.

I'd be down with that he's so cheap too, although he is made of glass.

Ya, actually a pretty sneaky idea. I like it. Day-to-day right now with a neck injury though

Don't you Blue Jays fans know the difference between a consistent good hitter or pitcher. And a inconsistent good hitter or pitcher. All most of you have seen for so many years here in Canada is INCONSISTENCY! Mr. Peavy is also Mr. Inconsistency. Don't worry about my spelling, but just check this dudes stats! The Jays are getting whipped again 5-0 half way through the game so I thought I'd show off all my knowledge. Please don't write and tell me it ain't very much, I know, thats why I lurk around this site.......to learn.
