GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Report: Raptors 'vigorously' exploring trades Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri has been “vigorously” working the phone exploring trade options, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Citing an unnamed source, Stein is reporting the Raptors are willing to part ways with anyone on the roster with the exception of second-year centre Jonas Valanciunas. “Anyone but Valanciunas,” the source told Stein.
theblujay Verified Member Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 You take back a statement about going for the playoffs based off 1 road game. Okay. Yeah it was enough to see the true problems with this team. There's no way they can be any better than a 11th-7th at best with the current roster and coach. The offense is a complete mess. They never go to JVal, its all isos. They can't shoot threes either. But the real problem is Casey, he has no idea what he's doing with the offense. Also his rotations are atrocious. The point is the sooner we start to tank the better chance we have at Wiggins. Unless they replace Casey or make some trades this roster is bound for the 8th seed at best and a sweep vs. the Heat.

WHy he doesnt foul with less than a 2 second difference on the shot clock gameclock is beyond me. Did he expect the bobcats to shoot early just for the f*** of it..or take the ball with 1 hand and riffle it at the rim, so only a fraction of a second is wasted between the time the shot goes up and it gets rebounded..

Yeah, that was incredibly stupid.
theblujay Verified Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Well the Raptors are first in their division with a 6-7 record. They might actually be the best team in the Atlantic right now with the Knicks and Nets sucking. I was onboard with the tank, but now I realize that its going to be really hard to be bad enough to secure one of the top 5 spots. The East has some horrendous teams, and the few bad teams in the west are going to get steam-rolled throughout the season and probably get a few of the top spots. So let's go for the playoffs, why not?

They would have had to trade away all the top players pre season and even if the did so and somehow managed to lane a Wiggins or Parker, they wouldnt have much to pair with either of them since only Johnson gets a decent return back. Indiana an GS are the organizations they should be looking at when constructing your team. There's plenty of good talent in the 10-18 range

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 LOL @ building a team like the pacers, you want to take your chances hitting on 2-3 10-18 picks instead of going for a top pick? news flash, you have to be even more lucky to be able to do that. Either way, the odds are against them.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Terrible news about Derrick Rose's knee. His career is pretty much toast. Brandon Roy 2.0.

And's that the problem. Yes they would. Who would score for them? The only guy worth keeping on this team is JV. Gay should've been dealt yesterday. They can't even lose properly. Franchise is a joke.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 The ENTIRE Atlantic Divison is < .500 right now. Both Brooklyn and the Knicks are massive busts. The lottery will likely be rigged so Wiggins and Parker go to those two teams.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 LOL @ building a team like the pacers, you want to take your chances hitting on 2-3 10-18 picks instead of going for a top pick? news flash, you have to be even more lucky to be able to do that. Either way, the odds are against them. Yes its luck the way the pacers built there team. Nothing to do with good trades and good drafting. The raptors had a franchise player surrounded by crap and it got them no where. This isnt a team that's built to tank, just leave it at that.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 And they're not built to become the pacers either with the current core. They'll have to blow it up eventually so why not sooner rather than later? You need a superstar to be a legit championship contender in this league and since there is no way the raptors can get one through FA, the draft is the only option. The odds of finding one with a top 10 pick is significantly greater than a pick in the late teens which would be where the raptors will draft if they make the playoffs. I'd rather them increase their chances of drafting a superstar in a stacked draft class than making the playoffs in a weakass conference with a core that has no potential for greater things to come.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 My point was that pretty much the only top 10 team in the NBA now that tanked purposely are the Thunder and even then they were in a great position to do so( Had all star Ray Allen to move in year wherre they already have the number 1 pick) If we scraped down this roster, we wouldnt get high draft picks coming back or many quality young pieces. Maybe something decent for DeRozan and Amir, but that's it. Keep Rudy until next year when he has a massive expiring and use that as a trade asset. Im all for rebuilding, but going into the season trying to lose as many games as possible when theres easily 5 teams that aren't going to be out tanked is silly. ID rather just see them play good basketball and make the playoffs because I dont believe the 8th pick in the draft will be worth trading away all our assests and not going something significant in return.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I'm of the mind that they fire Casey tomorrow, trade everyone but Ross, Amir and Jonas, and hope for the worst. If they can't trade Rudy, so be it. He's an active member of tank nation the way he is playing.

Id like to see them extend Lowry though if they cant get a first for him.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Lowry's OK. I support this motion. Eric Bledsoe is coming to town this offseason though. It makes a lot of sense, plus he's been hanging with Drake. They aint paying Drake for nothing.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Bledsoe was a steal for the Suns. Terrance Ross would have got it done, but im kind of glad we didnt trade him. He's emerged as a solid defender and is shooting the ball a lot better.

He and Amir are both trade bait IMO. Amir has an expiring contract next year so he should be a valuable chip.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 ??? Terrence Ross is having a very good season so far and has the potential to be a 3+D player. At worst, he'll be a solid bench player in a few years.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Terrance ross is outperforming Gay so far and is having a very solid season. Not his fault Casey doesnt give him more minutes.
theblujay Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Rudy Gay is garbage. Dwayne Casey is worse. What team is setup better for a 6-11th seed than the Raps?
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Pending loss to the Suns gives the Raps a 5 game losing streak. The tank is on
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Raps are only 3 games out of last place. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 The top of this draft is really 7-8 deep. I'd be thrilled with anything in the top 7. Wiggins Parker Randle Embiid Smart Exum Gordon Lavine? Just give me one of them

I don't follow the nba that closely other than watching some of the Raptor's games when I'm bored, but that return seems terrible.
