Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Nogueira getting absolutely schooled by Dwight Howard.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Getting completely overworked in the paint.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Nogueira getting absolutely schooled by Dwight Howard. JV was too. Just no answer for him tonight at all. Doesn't help ATL is shooting like 50% from 3
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Shooting over 80% in the quarter, but the defence is just absolute f***ing trash. So many missed assignments.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Bright side, maybe this will be the game that slaps the Raps into actually playing defense in the future It seems to me like when it comes to emphasizing defense, Casey is all talk.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 It seems to me like when it comes to emphasizing defense, Casey is all talk. It's not like Demar and JV are great defenders. When a team is scoring at will and blowing out s***** team by 20+ points a night collaspes like last night will happen.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 The Raps just don't have good defenders on the team. Derozan, Ross and even Lowry give up a ton of straight line drives. Carroll used to be good but since the injuries he's been pretty hit or miss. Joseph is really the only good perimeter defender on the team so when has a bad game it really comes out. And once you penetrate JV isn't good enough to protect the rim.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 It seems to me like when it comes to emphasizing defense, Casey is all talk. the raptors' D have gone from bad to good to bad again etc. since 2012. Casey will focus on defense next year after they give up 150 points a game to the bulls in the playoffs and they'll be decent again.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 It's worth pointing out that the Hawks have also beaten the Cavs this year.

Just seems to me that Casey says a lot of empty things about the importance of defense even at times when his actions suggest he's not actually prioritizing it. I think he seems himself as a more defensive minded coach than he actually is. That's not necessarily a problem for this team as currently constructed.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 I think a problem that is just as bad as the defense is the rebounding. We're constantly getting out rebounded by a wide margin, allowing the opposition to get multiple shot attempts per possession. It's like no one boxes out, JV tries his best but he probably isn't in top form as we've seen this year, and it can't just be him. Someone like Lowry usually puts up a good effort there, but he's way too small to be grabbing boards from opposing bigs if no one is boxing them out. Nogueira always gets overworked on the glass, mostly due to lack of strength and poor basketball IQ, he just gets bullied by the more competent big men.

I feel like the team should try having Nog and JV on the floor at the same time. Nog doesn't do well under the net, but is very effective at getting rebounds that go further out, and blocking shots when he can range a little and isn't being bodied. JV is more effective near the net, but isn't very mobile atm.

They're dead last in def. rebounding so that's a big part of the problem yea
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Payton's haircut looks ridiculous. They say he's not shooting well ... he probably can't see the rim.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 JV doing some serious work on the glass. We're getting tons of offensive rebounds.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Man the Magic suck. Not sure I've seen a team shoot the ball worse.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Russell Westbrook is currently averaging a triple double for the season. It may not be sustainable, and the Thunder aren't serious contenders in the West, but it's fun to watch him dominate. He's had 13 triple doubles this season so far. To put that in context there's been 18 by Raptors in franchise history.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Good article about why Patterson is so valuable. https://theathletic.com/30429/2016/12/20/what-is-patrick-pattersons-most-essential-skill/
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Feels like his athleticism (including size) and decision making just lets him fit in a ton of different lineups.

Yeah his defensive versatility is big. Kind of a poor man's Draymond in that way that he can guard the 3 to 5 and switch on to guards. And on the offensive end he shoots the 3 enough to open up the floor for everyone else.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Brooklyn was up on golden state by 16 at halftime, the proceeded to lose the game... by 16. Awful second half
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Well they are a awful team
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Apparently this draft is the best one in the last 10 years. Nice that the Raps have two First round picks even though they are at the back end. Would have been sweet to trade last years top 10 for a similar pick this year.
